Bombers Get Home in a Thriller

The Bombers have survived a passionate Vultures outfit to hold onto a tight eight point win at Dittmer park on Saturday.

When the final siren sounded the Bomber led by just two points, before Jeff White cooly slotted his third goal with a banana kick  from a tight angle on the boundary to see the final scores 16.10 106 to 14.14 98.

It was touted as the match of the round and the contest did not dissapoint with a finals like intensity. The lead never bleww out in either direction although Redland did hold the pace for the majority of the day.

The win was particularly sweet for the Bombers given the late withdrawl of leading goalkicker Jason Eagle and early injuries to Jaran Pantic (knee) and Ash Gemmill (ankle) that saw the visitors reduced to only 20 men heading into the last half.

In the absence of Eagle several key forwards stood up including White who was released by Jason Paxman, Anthony Marguccio, Adam Mueller and James Charlesworth who all booted three goals each while Phil Carse chipped in with two from the midfield. The even goal spread was a testament to the Bomber forward structure and its nunmerous options.

In defence Josh Norman was his usual brilliant self not only winning the ball in the air but having a strong presence at ground level, while Adam Boon showed good poise and 2nd gamer Nathanial Congoo was fantastic stropping key Mt Gravatt players and providing plenty of run himself.

Carse and Huy found plenty of ball through the midfield and Matt Thomson and Tom Salter did a solid job on Vultures star Nathan Gilliland reducing his effectiveness around the ground, although the Zane Taylor medalist still provided plenty of headaches up forward.

The win puts the Bombers two games clear of the Vultures and more importantly keeps them in touch with a top of the table finish as they sit only behind Southport and Morningside on percentage.

After more than a month of the road the Bombers will finally be back at Shark park next week for their clash with the Broadbeach Cats. The Cats who are stuggling on 3-6 but are always a dangerous opposition and have dealt many defeats to Redlands in past seasons.
