Semi Final (final match)
Redland 13.11 - 89 def by
Mt Gravatt 25.12 - 162
The Western Magpies have given Redlands an almighty fright, taking the battle right up to the home side but losing the game in one quarter of dominance from the Bombers.
In what was initially billed as a percentage booster, the 3rd placed Bombers came out far too casually against the 10th placed Magpies and found themselves behind at quarter time despite kicking into a substantial breeze.
The second quarter was also a let down, but to the Bombers credit they changed the momentum of the game to stem the bleeding and only took a 3 point defeceit into half time.
It was the third quarter that blew the game wide open for the Bombers. 7.6 to 1.3 putting the result beyond doubt.
Jeff White was moved to the ruck and gave great use to Phil Carse and Shaun Huy who began to show their dominance through the centre corridor and into the attacking 50.
In the last quarter the Magpies rallied again to put on 4.2 to 2.5 but it was all too late and the home side won by 27 points.
In fact, the Bombers had 31 scoring shots to 19 and dominated the inside 50s for the day, but could not get the result on the scoreboard.
For the home side its small defender were brilliant. Adam Boon put in another great effort to beat Val Pope and provide plenty of use himself while Nathan Lavis, back from the reserves, set up play beautifully all day on his penetrating left boot. Justin Myers ran hard all day as usual and continued his purple patch since the state game mid year.
While there was little reason to celebrate after the match, the Bomber have shored up 3rd spot on the premiership ladder, going 2 games clear of its nearest rivals the Vultures and Lions with only one game remaining.
It is no small feat for the club that has not seen finals action in over 8 years and with the introduction of 3 new clubs to the competition.
Congratulations Bombers!
Next week will see the Bombers play the Tigers on their home deck and the home side are likely to recall key senior players including Adam Mueller, Josh Norman, Matt Davies and Antal Reti as they ready for there qualifying final against Southport in a fortnight.
