Bombers Bundled out of Finals after Horror Start

The Bomber have been knocked out of their first finals series in eight seasons after a nightmare first quarter against Mt Gravatt which saw the home side down by nearly 70 points at quarter time.

It was shades of deja vu for Matty Francis and his troops who experienced a similar start against reigning premiers Southport last weekend.

Nothing went right for the Bombers who were repelled every time they went forward and scored against easily every time the vultures moved into attack.

The Bombers fought out the game manfully to tie the final three quarters, but the losing score remained at 73 points.

Too much was left to too few for the Bombers, with an emotional Jeff White in his final game battling hard in the ruck and up forward and captain Phil Carse doing his best in the midfield alongside Shaun Huy. Jason Eagle also gave his all up forward but was starved of opportunity for much of the match. His screamer in the last quarter a rare highlight for the Bombers.

The finals series was a great dissapopintment for the Bombers and their supporters, but season 2009 gives hope for a more successful future and a building block for 2010 and beyond.

With Matt Francis and several key players signed up for several years to come the future looks bright, and in better news the reserves have made the Grand Final and will face the winner of Morningside and Labrador in two weeks time.
