Redland Reserves Through to Grand Final

The Redland Bombers will compete in the reserves Grand Final for the first time since 2002 with the chance to make history and be the first team to win a reserves grade flag for the club in the AFLQ.

It has been a topsy turvey season for Chris David and his men who lost their first seven games on the trot to sit firmly at the bottom of the 8 team ladder.

However since that point the team has lost only one game and has never looked back to be the heavy favorites heading into the grand final in two weeks time.

The Bombers won the heart stopping semi final against Labrador by just 3 points yesterday with the visitor finishing strongly but couldn't do quite enough to catch the Bombers lead.

Up forward Nathan Burgess was instrumental booting 4 goals including the match winner, while Craig Millar and Jye Bohm were also very dangerous kicking 4 and 2 goals respectively. Millar kicked one of the goals of the year in the second quarter after evading an opponent deep at half forward, taking a bounce and calmly slotting a goal from 45m out tight on the boundary.

Midfielder Jack McDonald was in everything as usual while defenders Matt Pendlington and Kyle Thomson were impossible to pass at half back. Joel Conroy did a great stopping job on draft hopeful Clay Beams while Darcy Pope showed great athleticism around the ground.

16 year old Simon Taylor, who makes the long trek from Coffs Harbour to play each week, produced his best game for the red and black and plenty of run and tenacious tackling through the midfield.

The Bombers will square off against the winner of Labrador and Morningside on Sunday in two weeks time as the curtain riser to the AFLQ velocity sports cup Grand Final.

With the senior side out of the finals series following their loss to Mt Gravatt yesterday, up to five players are eligible to play for the reserves in the Grand Final. They are Jason Paxman, Nathanial Congoo, Nathan Lavis, Scott Tomlinson and Tom Rudolph. However Adam Oxley will be ineligible and Nathan Burgess will be away in the USA.

With the chance to create history for the club it would be fantastic to get as much support as possible out to Coorparoo in two weeks time to cheer the boys on.

Well done boys and good luck!
