Preseason Kicks Off
First of all I would like to thank the Committee for giving me the opportunity to Coach the Seniors for the 2011 season. I am truly humbled and proud to have been given the task of leading such a proud and traditional Club into the 2011 season.
I would also like to thank my predecessors Brad Pollock and Shane Monk for laying such a great foundation and I am sure as we enter the next season the legacy they have both left will grow even further.
I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce the senior coaching staff for the 2011 season.
Assistant Coaches
Assistant Coach (Midfield) - Shane Murrihy
For the next couple of weeks Shane will be taking a lot of the training as the other coaches including myself get around and get to know a few of you. What can you say about a player who has won three best and fairest in consecutive years? Shane obviously brings a wealth of knowledge to the coaching table and brings great enthusiasm for success.
Assistant Coach (Backline) - David Rowett (Wally)
Dave unfortunately due to ill-health had to give playing away; loving the game it was from here that he decided to take up coaching. Wally has coached senior football locally for the past couple of years before having a rest in 2010. I have known him for many years and I know the younger players will certainly benefit from his knowledge and passion for the game. Wally was a fierce competitor on the field and I have no doubt this will carry through in his coaching.
Co-Coaches Reserves – Trevor Denny (Muzz) and Brendan Hewitt (Biscuits)
Both of these former players do not need any introduction to the older folk around the Club. Trevor coached of the Reserves the last time they held a premiership cup before leaving the club to coach abroad where he successfully lead the club to two grand final appearances in a row. Brendan is obviously new to the coaching game but I have no doubt that between these two gentlemen the Reserves will be in very safe hands. They are both very passionate about the Club and keen to turn this Club around and I am sure that having them both around will bring back the true Puma spirit of old.
Under 18’s Coach – Corey Pitts Assistant Coach – Steve Purdy
Corey was my assistant coach this year and I have no doubt he is ready to step up as head coach of the 18’s in 2011. He has a great rapport with the players and I am sure the success there will continue. Steve Purdy lead the Under 16’s this year in Division 1 to a very formidable third finish as well as picking up the League’s Youth Coach of the Year for 2010. The youth policy that Springwood has embraced over these past seasons will continue to grow with both of these coaches at the helm and I am very happy to have them both on board.
Looking forward
Last night saw us kick off our 2011 season campaign and it was great to see the enthusiasm amongst the 41 players who attended our first night. I am truly looking forward to meeting all of you over the coming weeks and working with you throughout the season. As I said last night, you guys are the best recruiters so if you know of prospective players, please feel free to invite them down; we can never have enough players. The 2011 season will bring a lot of changes both on and off the field but the commitment to it all starts with you the player. The success of this Club will continue to grow providing the commitment from you does as well.
Any interested Under 18 and Senior players please feel free to call me on 0419 717 704.
Oppy
New players most welcome.
