Three-time Ray Hughson Medallist Ben McEntee has moved to well within striking distance of the lead in the race for the Velocity Sports goalkicking after three rounds.
McEntee, who booted his 100th goal for the season in the final quarter of last year’s grand final, had his best day of 2008 at Broadbeach last weekend.
The fast leading Shark kicked six goals and could have had more but for two set shot misses from close range.
It was a timely reminder for the State selectors that he has been the best full-forward in the AFLQ over the past four seasons and intends to maintain that mantle.
McEntee has now booted 12 goals for the season and trails leader Mick Aitken from Redland by two.
Aitken’s kicking at goal had been most impressive in the opening two rounds, but his radar was amiss last weekend as he sprayed 3.6 in the close loss to Zillmere.
Providing both stay fit, the duo look to be the main candidates to fight it out for the Hughson Medal at the end of the season.
Broadbeach rover Dayne Zorko continued his busy work around goal, his two majors taking him to 11 for the season at a tick under four per game.
Impressive Vulture Jake Furfaro may also lay strong claims after having kicked nine goals in two weeks, although much will depend on the amount of time he spends in the forward line given his talent and versatility.

11: Dayne Zorko (Broadbeach)
9: Jake Furfaro (Mt Gravatt)
