*** DIV. 6 ELIMINATION FINAL - Saturday 23/8/14 - v. Rosewater at Eric Sutton Oval - 2.15 ***
The weather's warming up and there's a certain feeling in the air....Finals are here!!!
That's right after a 5 year absence our A grade get the chance to play Rosewater in a knock out final on Saturday.
So please spread the word and come out to support our guys as we have a real crack at doing some damage in the finals - you never know how far we can go!!
We'll be heading back to the club after the game - win or lose - but hopefully to celebrate!!
*** Elimination Final Result ***
Unfortunately it wasn't our day yesterday in the A grade Elimination Final with a heart breaking loss to Rosewater, 11.12 to 19.07.
We started magnificently with a strong wind to open up an 8 goal lead at quarter time. Rosewater came out and did the same in the second term with the margin back to 2 points at half time.
We couldn't open up the lead we needed in the third term and only had a small margin heading in to the last term. Rosewater got on top and kicked away in the final quarter.
So that brings an end to the year for Senior footy in 2014 on the field. Thank you to everyone involved and let's keep the momentum going for next year. Presentation Night is on Saturday September 20th so please come along for the last official function to wrap up the year. Tickets available from myself or Giannina Taeger.
But it's not season over for Fitzroy as a club because we'll have plenty to support in the Juniors with several teams playing finals. Keep an eye out for details of games and come along to cheer on the future stars of Fitzroy!
***** The Bounce *****
Rosewater and West Croydon
emerged from their finals clashes
big winners after impressive performances.
A fortnight ago, Fitzroy
had stunned an inaccurate Rosewater
to produce by far their best
win of year. Still fresh in the minds
of the Rosewater and Fitzroy players
of last time they met, this encounter
loomed as an intriguing
contest. However, it was Rosewater
who asserted their dominance over
Fitzroy to record a confidence
boosting 42 point win and advance
through to the first semi, where
they will take on a deflated Ingle
Farm outfit after another big loss to
West Croydon. Beaten in every facet
of the game, Ingle Farm must
turn around their most inopportune
form slump in order to keep its season
alive. West Croydon, plain and
simply were too good. Young
Reece Johnston finished with seven
goals and was only piped of best
afield by the outstanding efforts of
Luke Francis. Kyle O’Toole also was
damaging in front of goal, snaring
6 as the Bulldog defence had no
answer to the Hawks forwards.
