Putting the W back into Werribee
August 2013 could be very significant in the history of the Werribee Football Club.
August 10- The club hosted the 20th year reunion of the 1993 Premiership.
August 11- The current players played Port Melbourne and won by 65 points.
August 11- The Past Players Day was the best attended in several years
August 11- The current players wore the ‘Spirit of ’93’ Big W Jumper
The Club was overwhelmed by the feedback regarding the Big W jumper.
The Club was flooded with positive feedback via its social media platforms- twitter and facebook. Past Players and Officials went out of their way to contact the club to voice their opinion that this was the jumper they wanted the club to wear. This was especially endorsed at the 1993 Reunion Night. The coaching staff, led by Senior Coach Scott West, and the players all expressed their desire to wear the jumper on a permanent basis. The Board, led by President John Nicol, voted unanimously to approach AFL Victoria for permission to play in the Big W jumper on a permanent basis from the start of the 2014 season.
The Club also took into account the fact that Richmond Tigers will field a standalone side from 2014 and the W jumper represents and reinforces Werribee as a VFL identity.
