About the Gisborne Indoor Stadium Steering Committee

An indoor sports stadium in Gisborne has been an idea tossed around for many years.

In 2006, the Macedon Ranges Shire Council’s ("MRSC") Leisure Strategy plan identified a need for an indoor stadium in Gisborne. However, it wasn’t until 2009 that the idea gathered momentum as information was being collected for the MRSC Indoor Sports Facilities Feasibility Study.

It was during this time that the Gisborne Netball Association and Gisborne Bulldogs Basketball Club came together to discuss their sports needs. These conversations soon spread to include other bodies, including the Gisborne Secondary College ("GSC").

In late May 2009, the Gisborne Indoor Stadium Steering Committee ("GISSC") was formed.

On 25 November 2009, with the help of the GISSC, the Gisborne community demonstrated their support to the MRSC by producing a petition containing more than 3,200 signatures, along with 30 letters of support from local schools and sporting and community groups.

At an ordinary meeting on 16 December 2009, the MRSC adopted the Indoor Sports Facilities Feasibility Study in which Gisborne was identified as a priority area.

Following this meeting, further planning was undertaken in order to request funding from other levels of government.

At an ordinary meeting on 26 May 2010, MRSC unanimously endorsed the concept plans outlined in the study and will now actively seek funds from both Federal and State Governments.

The GISSC is currently in the process of doing the same, as well as seeking pledges and sponsorship from community and sporting groups.

IT’S NOW TIME TO ACT!
