Presidents Update (October 2013)
Welcome to the October President's pdate and our final edition for the 2013 season. The last month has been an extremely busy time for the club as the season reaches it’s pinnacle across all the age groups. With the season having now reached its end it’s time to draw a breath and reflect on the last few weeks.
The Auskick group celebrated the end of the season with a mini round robin carnival and trophy presentation. We were again fortunate to have fine weather as we presented trophies, photos and hotdogs to around 450 players across 31 teams. The day was remarkable success and ran smoothly well done to the Auskick committee and club committee for their help on the day. Following the season end we were extremely lucky as some of our Auskickers had the opportunity to participate in the grid games at the Dockers vs. Swans Preliminary Final. A rare treat indeed
The Modified Rules presentation was help the day after the Auskick windup and again we saw around 250 players from the 13 modified teams receive trophies, photos and hotdogs as well as the presentation of the Greg Teeuwissen trophy.
The Youth teams have had a busy few weeks with five teams making the finals and three making it through to the Grand Final. Well done to both the Y8 Hawks and Y8 Dolphins on making to the grand finals unfortunately despite a valiant effort both teams fell just short on the day. Although heartbreaking to lose a grand final, take heart that many players go through their football career and even play in a grand final. Big congratulations to the Y9 Dolphins with their exciting 3 point win in extra time. It was great to see 3 teams in the grand final and wonderful to have so many parents, friends and players come back to the clubrooms that afternoon and celebrate the day.
The youth teams also had their club vote count and trophy presentation evening and again it was great night with a wonderful representation from all teams. Congratulations to all those players recognised with trophies and other awards. In the District Vote count the club again did very well and across the eight teams we secured nine awards including with three District Fairest & Best and six runner up District Fairest and Best – the best outcomes in a number of years.
Our club appreciation night was also well attended and was a great opportunity to thank our sponsors, volunteers, life members and District officials. On the evening the club awarded our highest award in Life Membership to Chris Foley, Mike Sweeny, Darryl Carmody and I was extremely humbled to receive the award as well.
As part of our end of season activities we also conducted our annual year twelve dinner. It was a great opportunity to farewell those players leaving the club some who had be played for over nine years. On the night a number of these players were recognised with junior life membership.
At the recent Subiaco District Presentation night, the club was successful in being awarded the Champion Junior Club for 2013 in the Subiaco District. SDJFC took out the award as joint winners with Warwick- Greenwood JFC. The club acknowledges all the efforts of the committee, players and spectators in making this award possible.
The club’s AGM is scheduled for November, next year we will have the children of a number of our current executive committee member’s reach the end of their playing career so will have several vacancies to fill. The club urgently needs to have some new members come onto the committee so we have a progression plan for years to come. In a club of over 950 players and 50 teams there’s always plenty to do, so even if you can help in a small way we’d really like to hear from you. A notice for the AGM and nomination form will be made available to members in the immediate future.
I’d also like to remind all our members to ensure they update their contact details on the clubs online registration system. The yearbook and details for next year’s registration will be distributed to the address currently in the leagues online system so we strongly suggest that all members check their information and update as appropriate.
Enjoy the summer and we look forward to seeing you all back next year.
