On Saturday 14th June the Northern Knights were finally able to return to the winners list in Round 10 of the TAC Cup with a 38 point victory over Tasmania. In overcast weather with intermittent showers the conditions were tough for football at Preston City Oval but both sides fought hard throughout the day. Northern got the jump early on the Mariners with four early goals. With Bailey Jordan looking dangerous up forward in his return from AGS Football the Knights were able to capitalise on their midfield dominance. Tasmania however was able to steady late in the quarter and went into the first break down by 9 points. Tasmania continued to put the pressure of the Knights early in the second and took the lead but Northern rallied and fought back with goals to Kye Declase, Sam Switkowski & Liam Hunt. When Jordan kicked his third of the half on the siren the Knights were full of confidence and carried a 24 point lead into half time. The third quarter proved to be a real arm wrestle as Tasmania made a number of attacks. The Knights defence was able to hold firm and maintain a 20 point advantage heading into the final term. In the last the Knights were able to put recent fade outs behind them with a three goal quarter while holding Tasmania goal-less. Kieran Malone started the Knights surge to victory with a lovely long goal then Billy Murphy was able to cap the win with a similar shot late in the match to give the Knights a much needed 38 point victory. Jayden Short provided some great run and carry for the Knights gathering 28 possessions and pumping the ball Inside 50 seven times. Billy Murphy & Jade Gresham were also good through the midfield, while Sam Switkowski continued his great season. Anthony Di Paolo had a staggering 49 hit–outs and dominated the ruck all day.
This weekend the Northern Knights have a bye in the TAC Cup and our next match is on Sunday 29th June against the Murray Bushrangers at Wangaratta.
