MURRAY BUSHRANGERS 2009 PRESENTATION NIGHT
It was the Bushrangers 17th Annual Presentation Night held last Friday night at the Gateway Convention Centre in Wangaratta.
With everyone dressed in there finest attire, the night was full of glitz and glamour, as players, staff, parents, and guests all joined to celebrate and reflect on season 2009.
Region Manager Andrew Carson took the opportunity to express his appreciation to all the staff and volunteers who put in a lot of time and effort to ensure a successful environment, on and off the field. Also presenting service awards to Matthew Freyer (10 years) and Deb Eason (15 years) along with the staff person of the year award that went to Team Manager Greg Laidlaw.
The Coaches Award this year was won by Jessie Finnen (Shepp Swans) for his tireless commitment to the cause and never say die attitude. While the Trainers Award, naturally voted on by the clubs medical staff goes to a 17 year old, who shows promise and good attributes as a person around the club, was won by Ben Klemke (Henty). The Most Improved Award was presented to Brayden Norris (Alexandra) for his continue willingness to learn and establish his game. The last award before the counting of the votes took place was the Ashley Cox Memorial Award, for the best 17 year old who shows great potential and looks set to have a big future, and it was Shaun Atley (Wodonga Raiders) who took the honours.
When the business end of the evening came around and the votes were set to be counted, everyone waited with anticipation as the room saw Dylan McNeil jump to a 12 vote lead at round five. He continued his lead right through the count, but the margin narrowed, as Anthony Miles and Jake Loraine made a late charge for the Best and Fairest. But all challenges proved unsuccessful as Club Captain Dylan McNeil (Lavington) came out victorious with 41 votes claiming the 2009 John Byrne Best and Fairest by just 3 votes to Anthony Miles (Nth Albury) who was runners up on 38 votes, with Jake Loraine (Seymour) taking out third place on 30 votes.
