BLOODS GET UP IN A THRILLER

The magnificant Marles Playing Fields hosted the Mighty Bloods yesterday and the improved conditions allowed the boys to turn on a great, gutsy win. The boys played with confidence for the full 120 minutes. Vossy and Browny were brilliant, but all the "kids" (Limon, Case, Schoey) showed they can mis it at senior level. Remember that Trinity had won 5 on the trot so were in form - but not good enough for the mighty Magenta and Black.

We got off to a good start kicking the first two goals of the game with Lille showing the way in the middle, feeding his midfielders. But the home side answered with a couple in quick succession as they are renowned for doing. It was an open game but both sides found it difficult to convert. We went into the first break trailing by 4 points.
The next two quarters were vital as we managed to slow the pace of the game and this frustrated Trinity. Our defence was on top, led by Stef Erikson and Ferg on the last line. But there was also plenty of pace off the half back line and Gill was winning on his wing (from what we could see cos it was a long way away!). Browny A kicked a couple in this second quarter with his trusty left foot proving ever reliable. Case got a free kick after a solid contest and duly converted. It was a good quarter for us as we kicked 4 goals against their two and while they missed a few, this was often a result of our defence forcing them wide or rushing their attempts.

The third quarter was also tight and we probably had our own opportunities to put them away. The centre clearances were proving vital and we tended to get our fair share which kept the pressure on the opposition. Froggy was getting more of the footy and Nathan Holloway got amongst the goalkickers. We went into the orange break with a slender lead.

The final quarter started well as we kicked the first two goals, through Brown A and Nathan Holloway. But the home side managed to get one back from sheer luck. But the next five minutes were ours with another couple of majors from NH (he needs a nickname) and Loewey. But again the home side came back after a "gentle" centre square clearance and lets say a dubious decision in their forward pockets. Vossy was brilliant in this quarter - a couple of times running the length of the ground giving and receiving the ball. It was a tense last 5 minutes with our hearts very much in Mary's hands (Mary Elliott our time keeper that is). We manged to slow it down enough to draw the four points and continue our finals march. It was a memorable team effort. As mentioned the young guns were great all day - Vossy and Browny (13 and 16 possessions respectively in the last quarter!!), Fordy was excellent in the trenches and Macca played another terrific captain's game.

The Reserves went down fighting against a reasonble slick Trinity outfit. Jake Muir was good across half back while Boffa's return resulted in four goals.

The U/19s were in the game for a long time against one of the stronger sides in the comp. Ditch was great again while the Bird kicked three goals. There are some more wins for this group as they are showing some positive signs.

Ray White Mark of the Day
Has to go to Rhys Johnston who took a juggling, twirling mark in front of the faithful in the third quarter. He even had time to throw it onto his boot and catch it again. Special mention has to also go to Chris Ferguson who took one of his trademark strong grabs in that tense last quarter.

BOQ Goal of the Day
Boffa, despite making a return to the Reserves doesn't make it this week although the Trinity backline certainly knew he was around with him making a couple of those pack breaking grabs.
