After the customary six changes at the selection table on Thursday night the Seniors were fielding another configuration against St Kevins. Probably our youngest side by years and games took the field against a side entrenched in the four. We needed to win and yes that is exactly what the boys did. Good hard physical footy and a win certainly the best for this year and for the last couple.
The game started at a terrific temp with the Bloods having first use of a 3-4 goal wind. Vossy got amongst the possessions early and there was a genuine spring in the step of the Magenta and Black. Rhys Johnson was playing well against half back while Chis was back to his niggling best. The home side didn't expect this level of intensity and it showed. Hammer took a couple of overhead marks in the forward line and had a couple of majors before quarter time. The home side settled down and answered with a couple themselves but we went into the first break with a handy four goal ascendancy.
The second quarter was going to be imnportant as it was imperative we kept the pressure on and with the aid of the wind, SKOBs may have felt they could get on top. But it wasn't going to be. We actually outscored them six goals to three. lille was great in the ruck while Frogga and David McKenzie were doing a great job on the dangerous SKOB onballers - slowing them down but also getting plenty of possessions themselves. Jake Muir got amongst the goalkickers, while Sammy was back to his elusive best.
So we went into the main break with a seven goal lead. We had played some great footy but there was another half to play. Jake was again in the action with osome strong marks and conversions to boot. Indeed our accuracy all day owas one of the highlights. Case bobbed up for a couple while the backline stood up admirably - led by Ferg, Al Johnston and the ever improving Ed Limon. The opposition was becoming Vosscentric which allowed other players to come into the game. Nipper Donnelly got amongst the action in his first game back for the club, while Stef Erikson was his aggressive best. We were on song and everyone sensed this was going to be our day.
And it proved to be the case. We kicked the first couple of goals in the last qaurter and it was definitely game over despite five minutes that provides the home side with a couple of goals. Sam LJ kicked another, as did Hammer and his mate Jake. It was fantastic to see the pedal to the mettle as we ran all over them in the last 5-10 minutes. Our aggression didn't finish until the final siren and the result certainly sent a message.
Well done to all the players on a great game and result. If we go into this Saturday with the same attitude, we will be very hard to beat.

The U/19s went down to Old Melburnians at the luxurious Albert Park complex. The home side got the jump in the first quarter and we were unable to peg them back. After quarter tim in particular, it was a much more even contest than the final result suggests.

Unfortunately injury and absenteeism took its toll on the Reserves. Those that took the field battled manfully against the odds and managed to kick a few sausage rolls against the tide.
