The St Mary's SFC is committed to an environment, which promotes racial and religious tolerance by prohibiting certain conduct and providing a means of redress for victims of racial and religious vilification and/or racial discrimination.
Our club is bound by and fully supports the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 (Vic), the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and the Equal Opportunity Act 1995 (Vic).
The acts and our policy promotes fairness by protecting people against a range of unfair treatment. One type of unfair treatment is called vilification (the others are discrimination and sexual harassment), and the Acts includes two types - racial and religious. At its simplest, vilification is a public act of racial or religious hatred, and the law states that such acts may be unlawful.
In the heat of battle it can be easy to lose control and say or do things which we normally would not do. This is NOT a valid excuse, and such behaviour will not be tolerated. We are all individually responsible to protect both the feelings of others and reputation of the club. So if you see or hear something which endangers either please speak up!
