HBCAFC Girls Federation Representation

Football not as glamorous after winning the final in atrocious conditions

On 5th October 4 girls from HBC helped their team win the prestigious Weir Rose Bowl Trophy. This  regional tournament for under 12 year olds is contested by the Auckland Football Federation, Waikato Bay of Plenty and United Soccer One. This year it was won by the US1 girls with the US1 boys coming second. The four girls who represented HBC were Katie Barker, Jacinta Borer, Brittany Coleman and Rachael Powell. Coached by or own Director of Football Dion Coleman these girls did well with a come from behind win in the final. Jacinta Borer made the difference coming on at half time to score two great goals the last an outside flick of the foot back the opposite way to beat the keeper, probably the goal of the tournament.

In the ten team league the US1 second team did the best it has ever done with Hayley Sterling as coach, with a further 5 Hibiscus players in this team the Hibiscus Coast again had the most players from any one club participating a tradition HBCAFC girls has had for a number of years. This team was represented by Jade Tuilaepa, Ruby Williams, Kenya Brooke, Sonja Bain and Michelle McKay. A great effort when you consider 4 of these girls will be able to represent our club again in 2010, and as 3 of them are only 10 will be able to represent our club again in 2011 along with Rachael Powell from the first team who is also only 10. A great result and continues our rise in the female game in US1.
