The club is urgently looking for players for their Under 17 and Premier Women's teams. The Under 17's are a new side this season with the aim of grooming players capable of playing top grade football in the future.

Michael Rumpf is a PhD student with AUT, involved with sports science within New Zealand Football and playing for ECB Premier team is currently carrying out a major study measuring speed in youth players. This is a great opportunity for players between 7 and 17 to participate in this study. Willy Gerdsen strongly recommends our players participation. Callum Poole from the 9th Grade 1st team led out Robbie Fowler for the start of the North Queensland Fury v Phoenix game on Friday 15 January at Westpac Stadium. he was also given a tour of the players area under the stand and allowed down at pitch side during the warm-up where he also met a few of the Phoenix players.

Dan Morgan-Howell finally got a run for Auckland City in the FIFA World Club Championships at Abu Dhabi and played a major role in setting up the winning goal for Riki Van Steeden as Auckland upset African club champions TP Mazembe 3-2 to take fifth place in the tournament.

A 2-1 victory over Glenfield Rovers in the final of the 2009 Napier Under 19 Tournament saw a very young East Coast Bays side win this tournament for the third time. Goals to Wesley Baldwin and Dillon Barnett saw the side home in a thrilling encounter. Earlier Bays had defeated Bay Olympic 2-0 to reach the final. More photos in Photo Gallery

Optimus Prime won the Peanut Trophy for 2009. Foreign Legion took home the Plate and the Ladies Premiers ended up with the Wooden Spoon.
The Under 19's were adjudged to have the best uniform.

Twice coming from behind, the Under 17 Metropolitan League team defeated Waitakere City 4-2 to claim the title and finish the season unbeaten.

The biggest crowd of the season was on hand to witness what was in effect the Championship final. East Coast Bays needed either a win or a draw to retain the championship title they won last year while Waitakere needed to win this game and their final one against Glenfield to better Bays.

Buoyed after the previous two tournament results and improvements, the 8th grade rep team travelled to Manurewa in high spirits and brimming with self confidence.

After 3 postponements due to the weather, the tournament was all go. Pressure had mounted on the team after seeing such excellent results and wins for both the 6th & 7th Grade teams the previous weeks at Birkenhead.

It all started off so well and a big score looked in the offing. But a very heavy shower early in the game soaked the pitch and repeated rain during the game made play very difficult for both teams, reducing the second half in particular to a lottery.

Both teams were up for a game of football after last week’s cancellations and Forrest Hill had the advantage of a strong southerly gusting diagonally across the ground.

Playing against a team that wants to play football instead of using a ten man defence to try and gain a point, is a bonus for the spectators who enjoyed the encounter between two of the more attractive teams in the league.

Boy oh Boy, what a weekend, what a season! To win the league by 17 points with 4 games to go is relatively rare for any team but to go one better, despite US1 efforts to the contrary, and snatch the Chatham Cup is history in the making.

Injuries and suspensions meant five regular players were missing from the starting lineup as Bays took on Birkenhead still smarting from their exit the previous week from the Chatham Cup. Three 16 year olds were on the bench.

East Coast Bays have never performed well in penalty shootouts and proved it again, losing 7-6 to Manurewa after being 1-1 at the end of extra time. This was a game that should never have gone that far as Bays dominated the game but again couldn't find the back of the net.

A double strike from Jason McKeown in the space of 90 seconds put Bays on the road to victory over a spirited Claudelands Rovers at Bays City Park.

As usual it was a hard fought battle between Bays and Glenfield Rovers. Bays created more chances but again failed to take them so sharing the points with their good friends and fierce rivals.

All the scoring took place in the first fifteen minutes and from then on the quality of the game decreased as both teams ground it out. The reaction of Bays after the final whistle was that of a team that had lost, not come away with three points.

From the dizzy height of last weeks performance, Bays dropped to a mediocre performance against an Albany side that showed much more fire, hunger and determination and came close to causing an upset.

There aren"t enough superlatives to describe the way East Coast Bays played as they demolished unbeaten Forrest Hill Milford on an excellent Becroft Park pitch.

It was end to end high tempo stuff as Bays and Takapuna battled out their Easter Monday clash. Most teams come to Bays City Park prepared to play a 10 man defence but not Takapuna who were right into their game from the whistle and caught the Bays defence cold in the second minute.
