Quake returned to 'The Epicentre' for the 3rd Round of the Premier League and enjoyed one of its best days in years winning 7 of the 9 games played.  Brief reports follow.

Academy

The boys played some nice futsal in the first half and were very competitive.  But a well structured, well drilled Rovers squad dominated the second half and scored some very nice goals.  Paul was very busy in goals and made some great saves but couldn't stop them all.  A good lesson for the lads - they now know there is more work to do.

12 Boys won 5-2 (Adrian 2, Yosi 2 and Angelo 1)

After a slow start and conceding a goal on the break the boys remained composed and worked their way back into the match.  The revival was sparked by Adrian who stepped up to the lead the way.  It was good to see the lads go on with things in the second half to put a seal on their display.  Well done lads, you're now back in the mix.

12 Girls won 6-1 (Amy 4, Kyeanne 1, Andrea 1)

The girls didn't start the game as well as they did last week and were pegged back to 1-1 just after half time.  Amy then put her foot to the pedal and the score steadily grew in Quake's favour. She is something special to watch. Again everybody played well with Caitlin ferocious in the tackle, Rachel making runs to the back post every time we broke and Leiah just missing her first goal.

14 Boys lost 0-4

The boys gave it everything against a very good side that beat them in the final of States.  The honours were even in the first half with Rovers taking a late 0-1 lead.  But try as they might the boys couldn't score the goal needed to get back into the contest and a late surge saw 3 more goals conceded to take the score to 0-4.  Great effort lads, keep working and a win is not far away.

14 Girls won 7-1 (Rosie 3, Amy 1, KirstieLee 1, Savannah 1 and Hannah 1)

A very impressive team effort.  The girls worked hard at training this week and carried out instructions to the letter to score another impressive win.  Rosie scored a hat trick on her 13th birthday and while she was scoring Lilli and Savannah were dominating the back court.  These girls are a joy to watch - the skill levels and passing interplay are of the highest quality.  Good job girls - keep it up.

16 Boys won 5-1 (Dalibor 2, Liam 1, Trent 1 and Harry 1)

Speaking of teams that are a joy to watch, this group certainly fit the bill.  They are playing with confidence, flair and grit and are stamping their authority on games early.  Rovers were never in the hunt and the goals Quake scored were all very good.  Well done Dalibor on getting 2 on your return and to Harry on finally getting his first - their cheer for his goal was the biggest of the day.

16 Girls Lost 0-1

This one is hard to write because, for the 3rd game in a row, the girls lost by a goal.  The girls' commitment and determination was everything you could ask for and you could argue they were the better team on the day.  They certainly had more chances but just couldn't score and it was harsh to lose to a single goal that, on a better day, doesn't go in.  Well done girls on your effort and heads up - a win is very close.

Youth - Won 5-1 (Enver 2, Shaun 1, Marko 1 and Anthony 1)

What a good win this was.  The lads took an early lead courtesy of a great goal by Shaun but were pegged back just before the half.  Quake's 2nd half was very good and they dominated play to ease away from Rovers.  An even better win when you consider we had two 15 year olds and a 16 year old making big contributions.  Well done Enver for getting your brace.

Women - Won 3-2 (Enver 2, Shaun 1, Marko 1 and Anthony 1)

This game was a fantastic advertisment for womens' futsal.  The skills, tactics and commitment on show were first class.  This was always going to be a contest with Rovers fielding numerous players from our former arch foes Eagles and the good crowd on hand was not disappointed.  Quake took an ealry lead and Rovers matched them goal for goal until Elisha scored the winner with about 7 minutes left.  It was then all hands to the pump and Dana was terrific in goals making sure Rovers couldn't score the equaliser.  The girls remain undefeated but, more importantly, continue to play good futsal.

Men - Won 5-3 (Danny, Jordan, Harley, Marko and Simon 1 each))

The squad was severley depleted this week and with 16 year old Marko Filopivic on the bench and Simon suited up to play, all hands were to the pump.  The boys started brightly but went into the half 2-3 down.  But there determination in the 2nd half was just terrific and they went on to score 3 unanswered goals to take a well earned victory.  Marko got on the score sheet and Simon put the icing on the cake with a very well taken fast break goal.  Great job boys and congrats on your first win of the season.

Summary

Wow!  What a great day for the club - one of our best in years.  Not only did we take 7 wins but we were close in the 2 losses.  More pleasing is the style of futsal we are playing and the manner in which the teams are conducting themselves.  Boomerangs at home next week - can't wait.

GO QUAKE!
