Quake travelled to Ryde to play Phoenix on Saturday and we matched our tally of points from our Round 2 encounter with 6 wins and just 3 losses. Reports follow.

Academy

The boys played well and just shaded Phoenix overall. Again there was plenty of passing and movement and the boys defence was better than in recent weeks.

12 Boys won 10-1 (Adrian Neoklis 4, Angelo Kalamvokis 3, Jarrad Galea 1, Yossi Sawalha 1 & Lee Thoroughgood 1)

The boys are really firing at the moment and they had their finishing boots on this week. Adrian continues his good form and Jarrad made a welcome return from injury. Lee Thoroughgood played up from the Academy this week and scored his first ever Premier League goal - well done Lee. We’ve said it before but we’ll say it again: it’s a joy to watch this team play.

12 Girls won 6-0 (Amy Sayer 4 & Natalie Vukovic 2)

The girls’ hard work over the last few rounds was rewarded with a very good win today. Amy was unstoppable and Natalie got back into scoring mode with 2 well taken goals. Rachel had her best ever game and nearly got her first goal. The girls remain in 4th place on the table with this win.

14 Boys lost 1-4 (Riley Hinds 1)

The boys didn’t play as well as they did last week but were still well and truly in the game at half-time. Even though this was a loss, this was a good result none-the-less as the score in Round 2 was 13-0. The experience gained this year will stand the boys in good stead next year. Keep working lads – another win is not far away.

14 Girls - Sponsored by JR Electrical – won 1-0 (Emily North 1)

This was a very good game to watch with plenty of good passing movements and shots on goal. Both ‘keepers were simply outstanding today with Lauren playing her best ever game for Quake. Just when it looked like Phoenix would hang on for a draw, a shot with just over a minute left on the clock from KirstieLee was saved but the rebound fell to Emily who smashed the ball into the net for the winner. Well done girls – more of the same please.

16 Boys won 2-0 (Harry Bagot 1 & Lachlan Roberts 1)

The boys didn’t play as well as we have come to expect but they did knuckle down to their work in the 2nd half and ground out a result and you can’t ask for more than that. Trent continued his good form too and Harry scoried from a fantastic throw from Connor to seal the win.  Connor Powers is getting better each week and looks like developing into a good futsal player. In the end the boys’ desperation in defence earned them the points with 2 goal line clearances (Luke’s sliding effort was sensational) denying Phoenix the chance to get back into the game.

16 Girls - Sponsored by Macarthur Marble & Granite – lost 1-5 (Mel Walsh 1)

The girls were desperately short handed this week with 3 players missing. They didn’t give up and tried as hard as they could but just couldn’t match it with Phoenix. Mel’s booming goal was one of the highlights of the day but it just wasn’t enough to spark a revival.

Youth lost 1-3 (Marko Filipovic 1)

Not one of the lads' best performances. Phoenix played the sit and counter game and our boys didn’t have enough urgency in their play to break their defence down. It looked like they would get a result after a baking from Symo at half-time saw them pick up the tempo but they conceded a poor goal soon after equalising and then Phoenix got their 3rd from a rebound when Quake played the 5th man.

Women - Sponsored by Dunsheas United Realty – won 4-1 (Claire Walsh 2 & Laura Donnelly 2)

The girls bounced back to form this week and played some nice futsal to record their 7th win of the year. Claire got things going when she came on after about 7 minutes and scored twice in quick succession. The girls then scored another 2 in the second half. The 3rd goal in particular was well crafted when Lauren drew 2 defenders to the sideline and then hit a lovely ball for Dolly to smash low under the ‘keeper. Mel gets a mention as well – her top class save at 3-1 was crucial as Dolly scored her 2nd within a minute of the save to take the steam out of a Phoenix mini revival.

Men won 3-0 (Harley Da Silva 1, Shayne Ardle 1 & Danny Martinez 1)

No last minute dramatics this week. The lads were always in control of this match and stayed patient with the ball before Shayne and Danny smashed in goals to send Quake into the half leading 2-0. Phoenix did hit the upright twice in the match but otherwise Andy and the defence had everything else well covered. Harley finished off a 2 on 1 fast break movement midway through the 2nd half to make the game safe. Quake now sit 3rd on the ladder – remarkable considering their slow start to the season.

Summary

This was another excellent day and another 18 Club Championship points lifts us above Dural and Vipers into 3rd spot on the ladder. Apart from the Youth, we won everything game we could have hoped to win and we can be happy with our efforts.

Next week we play Rovers at Riverwood. Can we match our 21 point tally from Round 3? There’s only one way to find out.

As always……GO QUAKE!
