Last Saturday we were beaten by a team that worked better together, more of the time than what we did. To put it simply we beat ourselves.
It wasn't about a lack of talent or players missing, it was purely because we didn't stick to our team plan. We had too many players wanting to do individual things and go against the teams best interests. For as long as this continues we will not achieve success.
Some of us need a wake up call. Maybe some just don't get it? Whether it is work, home life or footy you have a plan of attack, a way to get things done, to achieve something, a way forward. Without it life would be full of chaos and discontent.
At footy we have a plan. We know this plan works, but time and time again we have players choosing to do their own thing and go away from the team plan.
I'll be honest, I'm not here just to make up the numbers, I want to be part of a successful club, to have ongoing success. I'm confident most would feel the same.
We have participated in 4 Grand Finals in the last 10 years, is that not enough proof that we have the talent?
But what has inhibited us from the ultimate glory? What are we lacking?
It is plain and simple; we lack unity, cohesion, camaraderie. For me, it sticks out like the proverbial. We are splintered by individuals not having self responsibility, respect, and not wanting to play their role for the team.
So what are we doing about it? What should we be doing about it? What are you doing about it?
If we continue the way we are going, we will self implode; we will be responsible for our own defeats, not the opposition!
For us to be successful we need to make some behavioural changes. Individuals need to invest in the team. Everyone needs to be setting the right examples for each other.
The end of the round is complete after this weekend. We then have a break from playing and a chance to reset, and evaluate where we are at and where we are going.
However before that we have a game to play against Imperials. Make no mistake this game will shape our season. An uncompromising team effort upholding our 3 core values in Courage, Pride and Respect will be our major focus.
There is no guarantee for success but there are many things that can determine failure - if we don't work hard, if we don't care about winning, if we don't stick to our game plan we will fail.
T.E.A.M â Together everyone achieves more.
