COACH'S REPORT: ROUND 7 V IMPERIALS

In leading up to the game against Imperials last week, we spoke about putting in an uncompromising team effort and upholding our 3 core values in Courage, Pride and Respect. I’m pleased to say we did just that.

Last week at training we unearthed some home truths about how we thought we were going and how we were playing as a team. We were honest and transparent and as a result I believe we cleared the air and put together our best game for a long time.

To be 5 and 2 at the end of the round is a good result. I suppose being 7 and 0 would be better, but I’m a big believer in lessons learnt from losses. A loss cannot be immediately disregarded and forgotten about. It needs to be unpacked, dissected and used for future planning.  This is what we did after the loss to Wentworth. Time will tell, but judging it now the loss against Wentworth and the win against Imperials and the discussions that took place in between these events has certainly shaped our season.

I know individually I looked at what I did and how I could improve. I put more work into my preparation and I believe this was across the board for all players.

We spoke about everyone’s role for the team and how the team needed to play.

Every player played their role and it was a very satisfying feeling knowing that as we walked off together beating Imps.

We have now proved to ourselves and others that we can play a very good brand of footy over 4 quarters.

We get a chance to freshen up and have a break this weekend while the inter league game is on. Congratulations to Richie Handreck, Steven Denaro, Brad O’Connor, John Jackson, and Lindsay Romeo for making the squad.

Can I draw your attention to this week’s AFL Indigenous Round. In 8 weeks time we will be part of something similar and very special in our very own Inaugural Robinvale Indigenous Round. We will celebrate the contribution of Indigenous people to the Robinvale Football & Netball Club both past and present, as we look to the future and continue to work together and celebrate our diversity.

The highlight of the AFL round will be the annual Dreamtime at the G match between Essendon and Richmond on Saturday night.
