Ugly, but got the points.
Last Saturday’s game was certainly not a very good spectacle. It was ugly, untidy and not the way we want to play football over four quarters.
Irymple came to play and took it right up to us in the first quarter, we went into the break without scoring a goal. The important thing was that we remained calm and keep our composure. I knew we couldn’t play much worse. Fortunately we kept our composure and worked our way back into the game. We started to play together as a team and stick to the team plan. We went into the main break with the lead.
The third and fourth quarters seen us have 18 scoring shots to their 6. Unfortunately we couldn’t convert most of those scoring shots into goals and in the end we had kicked 12 goals 20 points.
A lot of players were feeling lethargic and tired and maybe this was due to the break? Or maybe it was due to doing nothing over the break? Another debate.
I think we need consistency; we need the continual reinforcement of our style of play instilled into us all of the time. We are trying to change something that has been done a certain way for so long, it doesn’t happen overnight.
The first quarter against Irymple we went back to the old way, we started to chip the ball inboard and have 2, 3 4 handballs in a row.
It is imperative to our chances of success this year that we continue to play the way we set for our team.
It’s a system that beat the reigning premiers a couple of weeks ago. We know it works, so let’s keep believing in it and producing it each week.
We had some good contributors on Saturday including Dave Albanese, Jake Gareffa, John Jackson, Donny Falvo, Brad O’Connor, Richie Handreck.
This week we face another danger game against Red Cliffs, they have certainly under performed so far this year and will be looking to take it right up to us and prove a point.
We need to have a good week on the track and be mentally prepared for this week’s game. Let’s turn up mentally ready and focussed and stick to our team plan. If we do this, everything else will take care of itself.
