I left the ground last week a very disappointed and dejected coach. Going into the final term we had a match winning 5 goal lead. To let Mildura kick 7 goals to our 0 and snatch the game from us would have to be one of the most disappointing games I have been involved with.
We went into the game knowing that we needed to fix our starts, with the previous two weeks not kicking a goal in the first quarter. On a positive we did that, we started well and stuck to the team plan for the quarter.
Our second quarter was terrible, for the majority of the quarter we were chasing them and were playing very reactive footy.
In the third we started poorly but toward the end piled on some goals to go into the last break with a 5 goal lead.
Our last quarter was absolutely and utterly pathetic. We let ourselves, our families, friends, supporters, the club and the town down.
The beauty about footy is we have this week’s game to respond and to get back on track. The senior group met Monday for a recovery session and a chat. We discussed that for the rest of the season we will have 3 sessions a week. The extra session will be dedicated to recovery so that we can get the most out of ourselves on a Tuesday and Thursday.
Every match will be video taped and there will be a video review for the senior squad after each game. There were many more things discussed and initiated.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to our supporter base and assure them we have put in measures so that this type of performance never happens again.
I am confident that we can turn this poor form around and I have faith in our club to do just that. What a great challenge for us!
But we will need help and support. Maybe you might have been a great ruckman in your time, why not come down and take the talls and share your knowledge. You might have access to a video camera or know someone who would like to video tape games? Please let us know.
It’s easy to point and blame, even easier to talk behind corners. It is unproductive and doesn’t achieve anything. I am only interested in people willing to make an investment in the footy club in order for us to be the best we can be.
