With 5 games to go we are exactly where we want to be, a chance at a top 2 finish.
Throughout this year we have been labelled inconsistent and unpredictable, and even though at times I have felt this to be an accurate observation I tend to lean towards the feeling that the competition is a lot more even than ever before.
The really great thing for us is it is in our own hands. Whatever happens in the last couple of months will be entirely up to us. We have got ourselves into a position where if we keep winning we do not have to rely on other teams to determine where we finish.
If we are good enough we’ll keep improving and playing good team footy. That is following our plans, making better choices and limiting our mistakes.
Last week against Wentworth was one of the most rewarding experiences I have been privileged to be involved in. The way the players, supporters, community and club got the behind the Indigenous Round was phenomenal.
It was probably fitting that the game was a close affair for most of the day. It wasn’t until the last quarter we managed to kick away and get some breathing space. Looking at the scoring sheet though, 30 shots to 20 certainly indicated we had more of the footy at the right end of the ground.
I thought what Phil Egan spoke about before the game was fantastic. The word courage came up a lot and we showed that Saturday. Courage, Pride and Respect underpin what we are about at Robinvale and I thought last Saturday’s win showed equal measures in all three of our core values.
Possibly for the first time in a long time we will have a full squad to choose from. Jarrod Alderton comes off suspension, Jim Ryan and Chris Hogg are working hard to prove their fitness and the likes of Christian Gorman, Rob Albanese, Toby Quirkmeeks and the like are in good form in the reserves.
So with 5 games to go the onus is on us. This is the time to start making some sacrifices, to do the little bit extra, to leave no stone unturned. It might be training an extra session each week, slowing down on the grog, booking into a chiropractor once a week or simply making sure your diet is satisfactory.
As of Sunday our focus shifted toward Imps. Remember they have not beaten us this year and we want it to stay like that.
What will you do to make this happen? Come this Saturday will you be able to tell your mate that you could not have prepared any better?
C’mon boys, it’s time to go to another level.
Go Eagles.
