Last Saturday was another fantastic day for the footy club. Not only did we have 3 wins in all grades of footy we had our 23rd Bonanza night which was a massive success.
Coinciding with this year’s Bonanza night was the Hall of Fame Inductees. On behalf of the current crop of players I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Ron Bishop, Ron Jury, Johnny O’Connor and their families for being inducted.
You could hear a pin drop when John James and others spoke about these great men. The HOF subcommittee, the committee and the football club should be congratulated on such a fantastic evening.
A special mention to Marion Leslie who worked tirelessly in the lead up to this event.
It was fitting to have the 3 football sides sharing in victory on the day, it certainly made for an enjoyable night.
From a senior perspective it was great to get the monkey off the back and defeat Mildura. Up until last Saturday they were the only team we had not beaten.
I thought our start was very good with continued pressure and forward momentum. We prepared well, we were positive in our approach and we showed a willingness to get the job done.
Throughout the latter stages of the last two quarters our intensity dropped off and this showed in the tackle count. With the final 2 quarters reading 10 and 12 each. Our aim is 20 tackles per quarter, and 80 for the game. If we all had one tackle each per quarter we would reach our team goal.
Next week we play the final fixture of the home and away season against South Mildura. It will be important for us to keep improving and investing in the team.
After next week the home and away season means very little. We will be embarking on a finals campaign in the hope that we will be there for the final game.
In my opinion we have the players to be successful. We have beaten every side in the competition this year. If we turn up prepared and ready to do the job no team will stand in our way.
It is about Investing in the team, if we all do this we will share in the rewards that come from it.
