After a strong performance at the National Schoolboys Carnival held last week at Maroochydore AFC on the Sunshine Coast four members of the AFL Lions Academy program were selected for All Australian honours on the back of playing some great football.
Clay Cameron and James Ives backed up their good performances with the Australia Post Under 16 Young Scorpions at the AFL National Under 16 Championhips last month in Western Sydney and set a high standard that helped the QLD Heat Under 15 team rise to the occasion and beat Vic Metron the play off for third place.
Jock Oates from Bundaberg improved immensley after a quiet start in game one and was one of the dominant tall players of the carnival with his mobility around the ground and marking a highlight.
Tyrone Brimble was another that improved with each game under his belt considering that he hasn't played club AFL for 18 months after deciding on trying his hand at Rugby Union and League. The experience in the rugby codes was evident from game one with his tackling a feature along with his ability to find space around congested stoppages and ability to kick long to space off limited steps.
Congratulations to Clay, James, Jock and Tyrone along with all the other players plus coaches of the QLD Heat U15 schoolboys team on their efforts in finishing third overall in the Under 15 competition.
