Gembrook supporters will be happy to hear this news. The Brookers did pole extremely well in the league Best & Fairest Count for 2009. Starting with C grade Netball Goal Defender Kate North, a new recruit to the team this season came an overall 4th in the count. In the B Grade division another Goal Defender Kye Stephenson ended her season in 4th position and new recruit Emma Litterbach (goal shooter) came runners up to the winner. She also was runner up in the goal shooting for the season with a tally of 439 goals. In the Reserves competition it was John Robinson first year out of under 18’s to miss out by 1 vote to win the Len Stratford Medal and club favorite Craig Clarke missed out by 3 votes to come runner up in the Harold Ramage Medal in the Seniors. Craig also was named the forward pocket for the YVMDFL Team of the season. Another senior player recruited this season took the prize for Mark of the Year. Steve Gough has played some excellent games this season giving the crowds some excellent entertainment with his high flying marks and he was rewarded for his efforts. It was Mitch Thompson from the Under 18’s who came “up trumps” when he won the Best & Fairest Medal in his competition. A stand out player Mitch was gob smacked when they announced him as the winner of the Division One Under 18’s Best & Fairest Medal. Steve Pantorno was also the recipient of a Life Membership of the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League in recognition of in excess of 300 games played for the competition. A great effort. Overall the club poled votes in every grade which was a fantastic effort for the end of the season showing that we can look forward to an even better year on field in 2010 with commitment to team and club.
