TEDFNC

Thornton Eildon District Football and Netball Club is based in the small town of Thornton, North East of Melbourne. With only about 300 people living in it's boundaries it relys heavily on surrounding areas of Eildon, Taggerty, Buxton and Marysville to populate the club.

The club fields 3 Football and 2 Netball teams in the Yarra Valley Mountain District FL and 2 football and 2 Netball teams in the Seymour District JFL.

Rich in tradition the Thornton FC was formed in 1920 and since merged twice with nearby towns as you can see in our timeline page. The Thornton oval is smallish in size but has great atmosphere and the club seems to  suck you in with it's cosy clubrooms and friendly members.

Known as the 'Shinboners' or 'Boners' for short TEDFC started in jerseys that were Red with a white horizontal stripe across the middle. They then moved into the North Melbourne stripes in the early fifties and stayed in those colours until they entered the BDFL. With a jumper clash the club changed to blue with a white V until after the last premiership in 2007 when they changed back to the stripes.

In 2007 the club celebrated the 50 year anniversary of the merge with Eildon by naming a team of the 1/2 century. The day started with both senior and reserve teams beating biggest rival Alexandra convincingly. The club had one of the biggest days in its long history with most of the past players in attendance. Later that night was the naming of the team, a bit of history and the auctioning of the special edition jumpers that were worn for the day.

After recent success (senior premiers 2007 and runners up 2006/2008, A grade premiers 2008 and runners up in 2007) 2009 was a hard year for the club with the black saturday tragedy altering the pre season preperation and injuries taking their toll. But with a new committee and a few new recruits there are some big plans for the new decade both on and off the field.

We invite you to join us as a sponsor, patron, member or spectator and enjoy this proud club as so many others do.
