Alcheringa Basketball Club are happy to advise that the 2013 Skill Development Program will start week commencing April 15, 2013 with MILDURA HEAT USA IMPORT PLAYERS Calvin Henry,Terrell Bell and Crystal Whittington.
Alcheringa Basketball Club will again provide the opportunity for all our club players to take part in advanced skill sessions with the Mildura Heat USA Import Players. These players have great experience in basketball at a high level and the advanced training will help the skill development of each of our junior players.
Groups will be kept to a maximum of 10 players to allow for more individual learning and in particular skills development. Groups will be a combination of age and ability, sessions will be one hour per week per group for 10 training sessions over 10 weeks. Sessions will be held on week days to be advised at St. Joseph's Stadium pending availability. The program cost to each player will be $100.00 for the 10 sessions

PRESENTATION DAY

SAINTS basketball players and family break upSunday April 14 will be our end of season break up family day. This will be held at Jaycee Park from 11am to 3pm. This year Arnies Laser Force (free) will be in attendance along with other activities and games which is free to the kids. We are planning a BBQ lunch with sausages and hamburgers for $1 per person and soft drink will be available at $1 each. Adults are able to byo their own drinks on the day. Ensure you bring own chairs, rugs and esky's. team trophies will be handed out to all players, so please come along.

ALCHERINGA have thrown a spanner in the works for the Mildura Basketball Association men’s premier league with an upset win over ladder leaders, the Demons. Just a week after knocking the Wildcats from the ladder’s top rung, the reigning premiers surrendered their standing as the Saints came up with a 10-point win. Led by Reece McNally’s 15 points and 10 from Kehan Dyce, the Saints are now just one win behind Demons and a chance to steal a top two spot leading into the finals. Ethan Zoch hit a big 23 points for Demons, but it wasn’t enough to stop the side recording its third loss of the season.

Training will resume this week Tuesday the 29th of Jan 2013 in preperation for the recommencing of the season the week commencing Monday the 4th Feb. Venues are the same as pre xmas.

ON THE BALL: Ryan Woods, Shawn Clarke and Riley Mathews will take on the best young basketball talent in the country next month, with the Alcheringa Basketball Club team mates to represent Country Victoria at the Australian Junior Country Cup. By VINNIE RODI

ALCHERINGA Basketball Club created history this week, with three of its talented Under 14 basketballers selected to represent Country Victoria at the Australian Junior Country Cup. To be held in Albury in January, the tournament will feature the very best junior basketballers in Australia and New Zealand, with Alcheringa team mates Riley Mathews, Ryan Woods, and Shawn Clarke, all 12, selected. The tournament will mark the first time any of the youngsters will represent their State, with excitement levels high. 

All three basketballers had to undergo a long selection process to make it to this point, identified first locally, before travelling to Bendigo for weekly training and selection camps. Riley, Ryan, and Shawn joined a further nine Mildura-based basketballers to be selected for their age group sides, with the trio now spending their weeks training together in the lead-up to the event. The achievement for not just the boys, but for everyone involved in our junior program,” Alcheringa Basketball Club president, Garry Mathews, said. “The club has prided itself on the programs we have in place to help our young players develop and grow, and the selection of three of our under 14’s in an 10-man squad is a great result.” Garry said initiatives like the club’s mini-ball program – which aims to equip youngsters with the skills they need to excel in the game – and involvement in a number of Mildura Basketball Association programs had been the key to success. “The club had close to 200 mini-ball participants this year, with all three of these boys having progressed through that system,” he said. “It’s a great starting point, and a program we’re looking to continue to push in the future.”

This year has also seen the club implement a new scholarship program to aid those players who earn State selection, with $3000 to be made available each year. Funds have been made available through sponsorships, raffles, and other programs implemented by the club, with Riley, Ryan and Shawn to be the first recipients. “Each of the boys will receive $1000 – which will hopefully go toward covering any costs associated with the trip,” Garry said. “Our goal is to continue to set aside $3000 each season for potential State representatives, with being in a position to financially assist our players extremely important.”

Let’s fill the stadium with Red and White for Xmas on Wednesday the 19^th of December from 6pm to 8pm. All teams players and families are invited to attend the Mildura Basketball Stadium for a Xmas break up as the A grade Men play on court 1.

We would love to see all players in their red and white uniforms. A free BBQ and soft drinks for club players and families Alcoholic drinks are available in the bar. The bbq will be held in the court yard at the rear of the bar. Please get along and make the night a red and white Xmas.

 

The XMAS raffles will be drawn at the XMAS breakup after the men's game. Please ensure you have returned your tickets to your teams coach no later than December 14.

Club lures James to coach

BASKETBALL star Rodey James will return to the game as head coach of the Alcheringa Basketball Club’s A Grade men’s team this summer The club has also secured former juniors star Sammy Pileggi as an assistant to James. A Grade tryouts will be conducted at St Josephs Stadium Tuesday the 18 and 25 th Sept from 5.30 to 6.00

Well it’s that time of the year when we are starting to get ready for the 2012/13 basketball season. Early indications are that we will have around 21 junior teams this summer season an additional 7 on last year. Competition age groups for this season are:

Under 10’s – born in either 2004/05 Under 12’s- 2002/2003 Under 14’s 2000/2001 Under 16’s 1998/1999 Under 18”s 1996/1997

 REGISTRATION DAY

This season we will be holding a registration day at the Mildura Basketball Stadium for all grades on Saturday the 25th of August 2012 from 10.00 a.m to 12.00a.m.

Registration forms can be collected on this day or at preseason training for pre filling and for submission on the day. 

All players intending to play must register on this dayas places are limited

TEAM TRAINING

The week of September 10th is the start of the team training which will give players and coaches about a month to get ready before the start of the season in October. (Dates and times TBA)

MINIBALL REGISTRATION 17^th MARCH 2012

OUR MINIBALL is an introductory and skills based Basketball Program for primary school aged children. The program is player-centred, fun-focused and affordable to all. It provides opportunities to learn, play with your friends and to develop important social skills in a convenient safe and friendly environment. Miniball caters for ALL, Girls and Boys who are currently attending a primary school from Prep to grade 6.  

Where and when?

Miniball operates out of the MILDURA Basketball Stadium situated on the corner of Eighth Street Mildura HOME of the Mildura HEAT, every Saturday morning.

 

How to Register?

You can register online by completing the registration form www.ibabasketball.sportingpulse.net or by attending on registration day. Registration day for the coming season is Saturday the 17^h of March 2012 at 9.00 am for prep and grade 2-4 5-6 10.30 am.
