Great start to the season last week with convincing wins to both the seniors and reserves. Welcome to all the new players who fitted in well including Daniel Erasmus who claimed the BOG Cystic Fibrosis medal from Heathmont, others to shine were Matt Petracca kicking 6 goals and Tate Hickleton before injury kicking 4 goals. The reserves saw Ryan Murray kick 8 goals in his first game for the club while others also put their hand up for senior selection including Jason Godfrey, Peter Cassidy and Jordy Whiteman. The under 19’s went down against a stronger Park Orchards side but showed they have plenty of improvement and should hit back this week especially with younger players Josh Begley and Luke Meagher being in the best players. After playing Heathmont for the 50th time last week this Saturday we take on Silvan for the first time since our inaugural season of 1949 at Kings Park. The Footy club invites all the ladies associated with club to enjoy a day at the footy on Saturday at Kings Park; $25 will get you free entry and access to the top viewing area in the clubrooms where you will be served by our VIP Staff and get the best views in the place, from 1pm until 4pm you will receive 3 complimentary drinks and finger food will be provided. The new Upper Gully Netball side made its debut last Friday night with a couple of wins and will continue this week; see below for venue and times if interested. The Committee has been busy in the off season and as always would welcome anyone willing to help out during the season; we are in urgent need for someone to put their hand up as Treasurer as Phil Gellie has had to resign due to work commitments, please contact Peter Hards or Tom Caruso if you are able to help out. The club needs someone willing to video the seniors game each week as well as a gatekeeper for home games; these are both paid positions so anyone interested please let the club know. A group of past players have spoken about getting a Past Players Association going so all past players can get together a couple of times a year socially as well as congregating at the footy to watch the current players; more details below. This year on the 100th Anniversary of the Gallipoli landings we will be hosting Boronia on Anzac Day; the club invites any former players or committee who are also ex servicemen to be involved on this special day; contact Tom Caruso if interested. This season will be the 50th anniversary of the 1965 reserves premiership team; the 30th anniversary of the Bluebirds under 15’s team, the 40th anniversary of the Bluebirds under 14’s team as well as the 10th anniversary of the 2005 under 13’s team; all of these premierships will be celebrated during round 13 on July 11th at Kings Park; more details soon. We are looking to start up a formal past players group at Upper Gully. For only $50.00 you get fee entry to Home Games, voting rights at the AGM as well as entry into the weekly members draw.
It is a requirement of the club's liquor license that all persons entering the social club when the bar is open either carry a current membership card or sign the attendance register on entry.
King Club 2015
The King Club is a support group for the Upper Ferntree Gully Football Club. For 2015 members of the King Club have access to the rooms during the senior game half time were they receive food and drinks complimentary during the break; there are raffles to raise further money with joker poker. You become a club member and have free entry into home games and also receive a king club polo. There is also a King Club social event during the year, which includes food and drink. Unfortunately despite our efforts to get more players on board for this season we have been unsuccessful. With this in mind we will have to pull out of season 2015.
