Saturday we are looking to get back on the winners list with three wins after only the Under 19’s flew the flag last week. The Under 19’s had an impressive win against a side above them on the ladder while the reserves, slightly undermanned, were overrun in the last quarter. The seniors were also missing a couple and were outclassed despite battling hard, good effort by Matt Petracca kicking 5 goals. Congratulations to Ben Ward on his 100th game last week and also welcome to Matthew Churchill (South Croydon) who played his first game for us in the Reserves. A couple of the U19’s backed up playing two games last week, Tom Meagher played his first reserves game alongside Jack Thomas while Josh Begley played in the U17’s on Sunday kicking 5 goals after kicking 3 in the U19’s. Don’t forget the 80’s night coming up next Saturday the 30th May; sure to be a big night so need everyone to attend. The VIP Area is available each home game to watch in comfort out of the cold. The Netball side had another loss last week, keep battling girls, I’m sure a win is just around the corner; see below for venue and times of this week’s game if interested. The King Club this year is being run by Neil Thompson; a new initiative called the King Club Flyer Trophy is detailed below along with further details about the King Club. Well done to Josh Danopoulos who kicked 7 goals last week in the U12’s against Vermont and also Peter Clarke (U13’s) and Braidyn Wilson (U11’s) who both kicked 5 goals. Good luck to all junior sides on Sunday; times and venues below for all sides. A group of past players have spoken about getting a Past Players Association going so all past players can get together a couple of times a year socially as well as congregating at the footy to watch the current players; more details below. The annual THF Luncheon has been moved to the 11th July due to the availability of a guest speaker; also on this date we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1965 reserves premiership team; the 30th anniversary of the Bluebirds under 15’s team, the 40th anniversary of the Bluebirds under 14’s team as well as the 10th anniversary of the 2005 under 13’s team. Memberships are now available please see Andy Lee or check out the website for further info. Upcoming events include Sportsman Night on the 24th June at Mulgrave Country Club and the Ladies Night on 4th July, while the IPod Night has moved to the 18th July.; further events below so put these dates in your diary and contact the club if tickets required. The Committee has been busy so far this season and as always would welcome anyone willing to help out; we are in urgent need for someone to put their hand up as Treasurer as Phil Gellie has had to resign due to work commitments, please contact Peter Hards or Tom Caruso if you are able to help out. Don’t forget to check out the website;http://www.uftgfc.sportingpulse.net for all the latest news and photo’s from around the club. King Club 2015
Neil Thompson is running the King Club this year and has come up with a new initiative to get the guys talking at half time in the rooms each week about the footy. The idea is for members to cast votes (3,2,1) on the player they think has had the greatest impact in the first half of the game and has gotten the team off to a flying start. The votes will be tallied up over the year and the player with the most votes will receive the King Club Flyer Trophy. Voting slips will be handed out to members of the King Club on Saturday. The King Club is a support group for the Upper Ferntree Gully Football Club. For 2015 members of the King Club have access to the rooms during the senior game half time were they receive food and drinks complimentary during the break; there are raffles to raise further money with joker poker. You become a club member and have free entry into home games and also receive a king club polo. There is also a King Club social event during the year, which includes food and drink. Neil Thompson can be contacted for further Details.neilt101@hotmail.com; mobile: 0400 921 357.
Upper Gully Vets
Unfortunately despite our efforts to get more players on board for this season we have been unsuccessful. With this in mind we will have to pull out of season 2015. Hopefully we can return next season bigger and stronger. Thanks to Jason Zinnow and Greg Blundell for their great efforts in organising the Vets team over the past three years. Some of the guys have decided to play with Bayswater and are acquitting themselves well including Greg and Jason.
