SWQ Thunder SAP Academy

SWQ Thunder Skills Acquisition Program [SAP] Academy

In relationship with FFA & FQ, SWQ Thunder Football Club has established the SWQ Thunder Skills Acquisition Program (SAP) Academy for U10, U11 Boys and U10-12 Girls.

The SAP is designed by the FFA and plays a pivotal role in the building blocks of player development. This phase is designed to develop the ‘functional game skills’ and technical ability to provide a foundation for the next phase of development.

The Skills Acquisition Phase focuses on 4 Core Skills -

1. FIRST TOUCH – Controlling the ball with all allowed body parts

2. STRIKING THE BALL – this includes all forms of striking the ball such as short/long passing, shooting, & crossing.

3. 1 v 1 – all moves, feints and accelerations to get past and away from an opponent

4. RUNNING WITH THE BALL – At speed (with a lot lot of space) or ‘dribbling’ (in tight areas), this includes techniques for protecting the ball and changing direction.

T   Through player identification evenings in April/May, Players have been selected into U10 & U11 Boys Squads and a U10-12 Girls Squad.

The boys squads are training twice a week on Mondays & Fridays, with the Girls squad in training on Mondays.

This is a 20 week program including 4 carnivals after each module is completed.

Carnival one was hosted by Olympic FC , Yeronga last Sunday 1st June.

Our boys teams played against Gold Coast, Brisbane City & Western Pride SAP Teams. Our Girls Team played again Brisbane Strikers & the Western Pride Boys team. A terrific effort from all involved from players to parents and coaches.

Our training continues, though players have a break over the school holidays with the next Carnival scheduled for 3rd August.
