In a league of his own

SEANG Pros could be the next Clive Churchill if his start in rugby league is anything to go by.

Just three months ago Pros, 11, had his first touch of a football and now he will play for NSW.

``I'm pretty excited and happy about being picked,'' he said. ``All my friends and family are happy too.''

Pros, the Fairfield Advance's latest Junior Sports Star nominee, and his family moved to Australia three years ago from Cambodia.

Being a natural athlete, Cabramatta West Public School teacher Matthew Halloran took him to a school rugby league competition.

``He is a brilliant soccer player and we thought he might like league as well,'' Mr Halloran said.

``He played in a zone competition which Fairfield won he scored something like 16 tries in five games during that tournament then he went on to play in the Metropolitan South-West carnival.''

It was at the carnival where Pros caught the eye of NSW selectors.

During these school holidays Pros will attend a development camp at the State Sports Centre in Narrabeen, where two NSW teams will be selected.

Pros plays full back and centre and says he follows National Rugby League closely.

``My favourite players are Matt Cooper and Mark Gasnier,'' he said.

Pros said he would like to play rugby league professionally, but for now, he is the newest member of the Canley Vale Kookaburras under-12s side.
