Basketball Geelong Referees Tess Bereza, Shania Watson and Bailey Dixon have been selected to attend the 2013 Southern Cross Challenge from the 18th-21st January in Ballarat.

The Southern Cross Challenge was in operation for the first time in January 2012. The initiative by Basketball Victoria sees the Metropolitan program coming together with the Country program to allow 13 & 14 year-old athletes to compete in a round robin style tournament. Due to it's 2012 success ACT, WA, SA metro and country will be joining in 2013.

With 8 teams from each program the players receive the opportunity to play alongside and against some of the better individuals around Australia, giving the referees the ability to referee games of a high standard and receive valuable education from some of the states experienced referee coaches.

From Monday 14th- Saturday 19th January Basketball Geelong Referees Nikki Hambrook, Matt Ginn, Shannon Jennings, Kelsey Newcombe, James Chamberlain will be in Albury Representing Geelong at the 2013 Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup, along with Referee Coaches Wayne Watson and Robbie Hatherell.

This year marks the 27th anniversary of the competition, which includes 72 teams with more than 700 players, coaches and officials taking part.

Referees and Referee Coaches from all over Australia and New Zealand will be in attendance all competing to be the best they can be.

Congratulations to Matt Ginn on being selected to represent Country Vic at the 2013 Ivor Burge Championships from the 17th - 23rd Feb in Launceston, Tasmania.

Also after a re-examination of the VBRA Senior Panel Rankings an error was made, Matt was originally outside the top 6, however Matt has now ranked 3rd in Panel 5 and will be Panel 4 next year.

This is a great achievement in a referees career to be on Panel 4, and Nationals Selection, full credit to Matt on his hard work and dedication.
