Men of League Allstars
OLD BOYS TOO GOOD FOR YOUNG SHARKS...with the Sharkman
The day after the heavens broke open on the Sunshine Coast, the staff and committee of the Caloundra Sharks Leagues Club pulled off a miraculous escape to hold this year’s Men of League Allstars clash. After what seemed an impossibility after the ground was drenched by over 100mm of rain the night before, the sun came out and so did the brooms and buckets and by mid- day the field was once again playable.
Some of the earlier games were called off due to the conditions but by 3.00pm the Caloundra Sharks ran out onto the field then were followed by Alfie’s Allstar side. It was obvious from the outset that the Sharks were in for a football lesson as the Allstars racked up 20 points before Caloundra’s Ryan Stroud got Caloundra on the board.
Caloundra’s work horse Dom Mazzoleni scored one of his best tries of his career to bring the Sharks within 6 pts but that just seemed to shake up “Alfie’s” boys and they piled on another swag of points before the last break.
Stand out player for the Allstars, Shane Webke, showed he had not lost any of his venom as he hit Caloundra’s defence many times and pulled off many bone jarring tackles giving him the Man of the Match award. Chris Ainsworth was the best for the Caloundra Sharks and he showed that he will be a force to reckon with this year in Justin Otto’s place. Good luck to Justin at the Sea Eagles as he was far and beyond our best player last year and will be greatly missed.
The Allstars in the end won the very entertaining game by a couple of points and the crowd of 3,000 odd streamed onto the field after the game to congratulate their former heroes. Many thanks to Nick Paterson for all his tireless efforts in setting this great day up and also to all the sponsors and many helpers on the day. Hope to see you there once again next year.......Sharkman

SHARKS GEARING UP FOR A HUGE YEAR.....with the Sharkman
As the water slowly evaporates from the drenched fields and outer grounds, there is a hint of optimism floating around Shark Park. Two training sessions have produced reasonable numbers and with the Men of League Allstars game only weeks away, the committee and staff have been busy making the picturesque coast field look a treat. The rain in the past weeks has given the field a bright green touch and after much tender loving care, the grass is looking as good as it ever has.
“Alfie” has organised his troops for the Allstars game and A grade Coach, Kevin Taylor has his hands full trying to select a side to take on the legends from a mountain of keen players. “Alfies” team will include some of the greats of the game including Scott Hill, Adam Mogg, Scott Sattler, Craig Greenhill, Craig Polla-Mounter, Noel Goldthorpe, Tony Priddle, Adam Maher and Wayne Marshall. Further former State and International players will be added in the next few weeks.
The Pre-Season clash will be held at Shark Park on Saturday 25th February and a percentage of the days takings will be donated to Currimundi Special School. There will be many other family orientated events on the day with give-aways from the Sharkman. For a great days entertainment, come on down to Shark Park and watch some of the greats of the game show their skills.....See you there.....Sharkman
Presentation Night 2011

CALOUNDRA SHARKS NAME THEIR BEST......with the Sharkman
The Caloundra Rugby League Club held their 2011 presentation night last Saturday night in a glitz and glamour affair. Many players were unrecognisable in their suits and ties but it all added to the atmosphere of what had been achieved this year, inside the club and also on the field.
Top honours went to Justin Otto who was awarded the prestigious A Grade Best and Fairest award after the nippy No. 7 streeted the other players for the points. A huge contingent of 125 players, partners, coaches, volunteers and parents turned up to celebrate a huge year for the Sharks.
Caloundra Rugby League Club’s Patron, Des Dwyer awarded the Best and Fairest trophies.

Alfie Langer Cup and Trial Game Update

On the 6th March 2011, Shark Park will host the U/16 and U/18 Sunshine Coast Rep side when they take on Ipswich. Game times are 3.00 and 4.30 and full facilities will be open
On Saturday the 12th March, the Sharks will take on Kawana in a pre season A grade grudge match to play for the annual Alfie Langer Cup. Alfie will be there to present the cup. Our reserve grade and combined C grade will also take on Blackbutt in an earlier game with Kawana's Reserve grade also chiming in with maybe a third half challenge. Blackbutt is very strong in the Burnett Comp. so we should be in for a tough day all round.
Shane St James discovers Hidden Talent
After Saturday nights Hypnotist show, many guests left with one thought on their mind. "Have we just seen the person to take over from the Sharkman when he retires". Maybe , but he has to come up with some better one liners and curb his language a bit before he can get a look in for the most sought after job at Shark Park. Sharkman was there on Saturday night and was impressed with "Pergola's" antics but admits his job is not under any pressure. The show was brilliant with St James having the large cowd in histerics for most of his 2 hours. There were human jackhammers, orchestral conductors, bodybuilders, belly dancers, boxers and best of all was the Tiger Woods impressions,("Pergola" won that one as well). Overall it was a great night for the Sharks and hopefully next year we will pack the place out.
Sharks to get Hypnotised
