SHARKS DEFEAT CORRIMAL
Story and photo Courtesy of the Illawarra Mercury.
Shellharbour coach Ryan Powell was disappointed with some aspects of his team's play after they defeated Corrimal 36-18 in a hard-fought, sometimes spiteful Illawarra Coal Cup match at Ron Costello Oval yesterday.
Three Cougars, Cameron Graham, Aaron Warren and Michael Graham, and one Shark, Harold Snell, were sin binned in the second half after several incidents, including fighting.
The Sharks led 24-6 at half-time and both sides scored 12 points each in the second term.
Shellharbour hooker Daniel Burke scored one try and kicked four goals, prop Ray Cashmere bagged two tries, halfback Justin Rodrigues, lock Michael Murphy and winger Ben Stratton one each and five-eighth Sam Clune kicked two goals.
For Corrimal, fullback Luke Raduva, second-rower Luke Ryder and interchange player Ryan Fletcher scored one try each and five-eighth Aquila Gela landed three conversions.
"We played some pretty terrible football today," Powell said.
"We didn't do anything we talked about doing and we still put 36 points on those guys."
Powell accused Corrimal of using "grub" tactics.
"I can't believe they were allowed to get away with what they get away with," he said.
"Hopefully someone puts a stop to it because real football sides like us and Wests and Thirroul shouldn't have to put up with that sort of stuff.
"Hopefully it gets sorted out and we can get on and play some good footy against Wests next week."
