Round 18 – Last crack at them!!
Round 17 was the worst round in Snakes history as it was the last home game and Maroochydore failed to play C Grade and Reggies with forfeits and the only excuse was “We don’t want to get flogged”.
C Grade had the game off with the poor pull out from the Swans and will enjoy the rest as it takes on Bribie Island this weekend on Saturday at Beachmere. After the finer points of the semi finals format has changed for C Grade the Snakes are now definitely into the semis and if a win against the Warrigals is posted then they will play Pomona the following week in semis footy but a loss will see them line up again against Bribie for a rematch. Get to Beachmere this Saturday for a cracker.
Our Under 18’s suffered a heavy defeat and will be looking forward to the end of 2010 footy and start the 2011 campaign. A special mention to a few players that stood up and played great footy and earnt spots in senior sides this year are Dalton Philips, Sean Brooks, Jake Carl, Anthony Tencati and Andrew Meers. These young men filled voids throughout the season and will be key factors in next season when deciding on teams in senior ranks.
Reserve Grade also had a forfeit and now is in doubt of taking Minor Premiership. With it still in the balance they need Caloundra to lose to Nambour by a large score and for us to post 100 points against the Noosa Pirates this Sunday arvo. A big ask but if any team can do it is Richard Purus’ Reggies.
A Grade ran out with a small but very vocal crowd and gave the Swans what for. The Swans luckily could manage to muster an A Grade side for the match whom we do thank them and to their credit they played not bad and ran the Snakes to the wire. Poor try conversions kept the scores close but a revved up Snakes team put on a show that many had been waiting for all year.
After the A Grade game a few cold ones were passed upstairs in the clubhouse and we took time to recognise four players that had played 100 plus games for the club. Ben Wust, Dave Roche, Mat Morris and Nik Taylor were all awarded for their loyalty to the black and gold with vouchers proudly sponsored by Struddy’s Sports, free drinks in the clubhouse on the night, free sign on and gear for the 2011 season and special recognition on presentation night will take place in front of all their peers. I would also like to mention that if Reggies play semi finals and make it to the Grand Final that two other players will also make 100 games in club colours and they are Reserve Grade captain Steve Sheppard and “Mr Dependable” Rob Parker. Nik Taylor is the highest playing Snake with 104 games under his belt but a long way behind club stalwart Mark Carstens with at least 400 games and still counting against his name.
With the season coming to a close and two teams vying for semis success I would like to thanks everyone for their support and sponsorship of the Snakes and hope that 2011 is a better one for A Grade but also for all our fans.
