Back on the Track With the coaching staff nearing completion, no player departures, Dicko back and Jacko recuperating, and a couple of recruitment coups yet to be announced, there was a pleasing roll up Monday 16 Nov for first pre season run. From The Age 1 Oct - Go Spider AS many grand final fans will attest, getting into the Geelong rooms after its premiership triumph last Saturday was nigh on an impossibility, what with more officials and security people than there were players assigned to keep out anyone without the correct accreditation. Which makes the feat by best mates Neil "Spider" Christie and Frank Robertson, who describe themselves as ''two average blokes'', quite unbelievable. Not only did they make it into the Cats' MCG inner sanctum post match but, as our picture proves, they even managed to get their hands on the cup besides being photographed alongside coach Mark Thompson. more -->

The Vultures beat us but we won respect. The seniors were gallant in defeat and made the vultures work for their finals appearance. They will be wearing a few sore bodies when they line up next week. The Magoos found a team overnight and in a nail biting last quarter with percentages converging we lost out to the vultures, Redlands and the maggies. Second Inter Club Practice Match (includes the Magoos): Western Magpies at Sherwood Seniors and Magoos took on the Western Magpies at Sherwood in the second inter club practice match on election day. Familiar feeling at Sherwood given two grounds side by side with goal and behind posts and simultaneous games throughout the day – we could be forgiven for thinking we were in southern states except for the sun and blue skies. Dale Perkins made the journey without a prang. more -->
Latest latest patient Les Sheers fell off a ladder? About a 600mm fall and broke his limp Carlton wrist which is now quite blue under the plaster. Apparently one of the bones broke through and pointed along his hand just like a shear blade. Wolverine Sheers? An overnighter in hospital and arm in plaster for 6 weeks has pleased Larraine immensely - those backhanders sting. Not sure which hand and that could make a difference to Les' recuperation period? All the best for a comfortable knitting period Les and just ignore the itching. more -->
Latest patient Mike Brook (Catsonian) and President of Cricket Club has spent the past week in hospital in a room that doubled up as the morgue - too bloody cold according to Mike. Currently under the care of Dr. Bang Bang Maxwell Eliott. Get well soon. more -->
Eight09 - Test yourself, Must be in by next Wednesday Better get your tips in otherwise we are left with a lone Craig Sinclair entry as the best footy analyst in the club and if you could see his final eight and premiers you'd laugh! We were going for nine09 just to keep it nice but everyone knows that Richmond will finish ninth, so.......Eight09 it is. Only one person at the club picked the eventual 2008 premiers before the season proper got underway and there was an embarassing number of 'experts' off the mark with their selections for the final eight. It's easy? All you have to do is nominate your final eight, games won, premiers, woodenspooners and brownlow medalist for season 2009 on the attachment and email to rictre@people.net.au with eight09 as subject before the season proper gets underway. The attachment provides you an example and maybe some food for thought. more -->
TV Special on Aussie Rules We understand that channel 7 will broadcast in Qld at 10am Sunday 22 March (please double check guides) a program going to air in southern states on Friday night. It is we think entitled "The Essence of Football". A camera crew were contracted last year to produce a special in celebration of 150 years of aussie rules. As it turns out the crew were 'embedded' with Hawthorn, Footescray, the Palestinean-Israeli Peace team that competed in the International Cup, Sth African AFL, some community clubs etc. and a bunch of businessmen who paid handsomely for the privelage of playing a scratch match on the hallowed MCG surface. The discussion on SEN sounded as if it is a not-to-be-missed bit of video. Click 'more' for comments in Age thursday 19 more -->

How many retirees does it take to change a light bulb or a smoke alarm battery? One, but it might take all day. On the other hand our Boc got straight down to it and attempted to change a battery on a precariously placed chair sometime into beer o'clock, and ended up outside the house having demolished a plate glass window on his way down from changing said battery. Boc is recouperating albeit with a head of sutures, happy in the knowledge that a brain was found inside, and confident that his bottled blood will sell well in the streets of the Burra. Get well soon Boc. more -->

Goalposts Great to see the posts in the turf - it does something inside just like when you fly into Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth or Hobart and cannot see a rectangular field because the ellipse shape and goalposts dominate. Although the far right behind post at the east end needs some adjustment? Smithy has charged Congo with straightening it up a la Lethal Leigh style - failing that Warwick Fenner has volunteered to give it a go while waiting for his Visa to the BAFL. Speaking of Warwicks, all you good Beaudesert folk have a couple of interesting candidates for the State elections. Warwick Hansen or Pauline Capper? more -->

Bombs away for rushed behinds From The Age, 6 Dec 2008. THE AFL's latest knee-jerk plans to penalise teams for rushed behinds simply don't go far enough. When a player rushes a behind, a concealed mine should go off, blowing him up. For a second offence, a mine positioned under that team's bench should be exploded. Of course, I don't actually believe this, but I've made a bet with myself about whether the league has actually gone so haywire that they'll implement these plans in time for the pre-season competition. For interested odds-makers, I've got it at 5-4 on they'll adopt the plan as is, and 3-2 they'll strap bombs to every player on the field in time for next year's pre-season comp. more -->
