WHOPPING THIRD QUARTER SETS UP BIG WIN

A barnstorming third quarter where they monstered Redland with 12.7-0.2 set up a 121-point win for Southport at Fankhauser Reserve.
Either side of the premiership quarter demolition the Bombers were outscored a respectable 15 goals to 10, although the visitors’ poor disposal by foot hurt them all day.
The damage could have been even greater had the Sharks kicked straight, but the 27.26 (188)-10.7 (67) still kept them in line with top side Mt Gravatt in the percentage stakes.

SHARKS RIP INTO TIGERS

Southport surged a game clear in second place and dropped Labrador to second last with a comprehensive 11-goal victory in the final game of Round 4 at Cooke-Murphy Oval today.
The contest was tight for the first 45 minutes, before the Sharks assumed total control and ran out 16.15 (111)-6.9 (55).

McENTEE CIRCLING LEADERS

Three-time Ray Hughson Medallist Ben McEntee has moved to well within striking distance of the lead in the race for the Velocity Sports goalkicking after three rounds.
McEntee, who booted his 100th goal for the season in the final quarter of last year’s grand final, had his best day of 2008 at Broadbeach last weekend.
The fast leading Shark kicked six goals and could have had more but for two set shot misses from close range.

WAYWARD SHARKS GET THE POINTS

Southport’s inaccuracy in front of goal did not hurt them this week as they ground out a workmanlike 8.21 (69)-6.4 (40) win over Zillmere in tough conditions at Fankhauser Reserve yesterday.
The Sharks’ wastefulness in front of the big sticks hurt them in their 10-point loss at Mt Gravatt last week, and it threatened to undo them when they were just 16 points in front at the last change yesterday.
