The Port Macquarie Magpies AFL Club were fortunate enough to be the recipient of a community grant though Coastline Credit Unions Community Foundation established to assist in the funding of assets utilised by the local community. Last Saturday's NCAFL Round 14 match against the Sawtell Toormina Saints saw Leanne Dunlop (representing Coastline's Port Macquarie Branch) officially opened two shelters at Wayne Richards Parks AFL field which have now become permanent fixtures at the sporting complex and courtesy of the foundation. Both teams appreciated the shade and protection from the elements the new shelters provide. They will also be made available to the junior AFL players, officials and volunteers during the remainder of the wet and windy winter months prior to the commencement of the cricket season. Port Macquarie Magpies President Craig Carroll said, "We're extremely grateful for the Credit Unions generous contribution in funding much needed infrastructure improvements at the home of AFL and would like to acknowledge the value this foundation extends to the community at large. In this case, both Cricket and AFL are the direct beneficiaries however, Coastline website provides a long list of projects and sponsorship its involved with as an illustration of the community minded values it supports".
