Greece beats Puerto Rico to win the Supercup

BAMBERG (FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men) – Greece defeated Puerto Rico 93-86 in the final of the Supercup in Bamberg, Germany.
Antonios Fotsis of Panathinaikos led with 17 points while Vasilios Spanoulis had 16 and Sofoklis Schortsanitis 14.
Greece dominated the whole game with a 32-26 first quarter lead and then a 61-49 halftime advantage over the Puerto Ricans.
In a losing effort Jose Juan Barea had 32 points and 5 assists while Ricky Sanchez netted 16, Joel Jones 14 and Javier Mojica along with Filiberto Rivera had 8 points each. Peter John Ramos grabbed 10 boards.
The Greeks shot 11-18 three point range and 22-36 from two points for 61% while they were 16-31 from the free throw line. Puerto Rico shot 13-27 from three points but 14-33 from two points for 45% while they had a good performance from the free throw line shooting 19-25.
The Puerto Rican team moves tomorrow to Maribor, Slovenia where they start their second part of their warm up schedule starting on July 8 in a tournament that features New Zealand, Iran and the host.
