Jarryd Roughead has kicked four goals to half time for Hawthorn against West Coast at the MCG on Friday night

HAWTHORN'S damaging forward duo have led it to a 57-point win over West Coast at the MCG on Friday night.

Lance Franklin and Jarryd Roughead combined for a total of 11 goals in the Hawks score of 18.18 (126) to West Coast's 9.15 (69)

After trailing by 36 points at half time, West Coast got the start they needed in the third term when Ashley Hansen kicked his third before turning provider for Brent Staker. When Dean Cox converted not long after, the visitors had three in a row and a sniff of an unlikely comeback.

Franklin's fourth settled the Hawks, taking them to a 28-point buffer at three-quarter time but coach Alastair Clarkson would have been hoping for a far more convincing effort in the final quarter.

    He got it.

Roughead began what was to become a procession with his fifth before Luke Hodge -- who had received treatment on his hamstring and lower back in the third quarter -- kicked two in a row. Mark Williams joined the party midway through the term, but it was the twin towers that home fans wanted to see more of.

Roughead duly gave them something else to cheer about with his sixth for the evening before Hansen, who was excellent up forward for the Eagles, broke Hawthorn's five-goal streak.

Late goals were traded but by that stage the issue was academic, with the only interest being whether the final margin would crack the half century. Grant Birchall's bomb on the siren ensured that it did.

Shane Crawford, returning from a knee injury, was industrious for the Hawks -- particularly in the first half when his ability to run and carry the ball highlighted what his team had been missing in recent weeks. Trent Croad, also returning, was excellent with 20 possessions and 13 marks in defence.

It was left to too few for the Eagles with Daniel Kerr (40 disposals) and Matt Priddis (45), joining Hansen as their team's best. As usual, Dean Cox (22 disposals and 27 hit-outs) was also an outstanding contributor in a losing cause.

Earlier, the Hawks set up their first half lead through more efficient use of the ball, although they were assisted by the Eagles with several costly turnovers in defence.

Roughead opened the scoring after making the most of an ill-conceived spoil by his West Coast opponent Beau Wilkes.

The 21-year-old Hawk was shaping as the dominant forward on the ground but his efforts, though spectacular, only amounted to two more behinds. Osborne and Hodge did better, both goaling thanks to defensive errors from the West Coast and stretching Hawthorn's quarter time lead to 28 points.

Ashley Hansen pegged one back for the Eagles in the opening minute of the second quarter and added a second shortly after in answer to Franklin's first.

The Eagles managed to get within 14 points on the back of Ben McKinley's snap but Franklin, and then Roughead with career goals 100 and 101, answered again.

A free kick to Adam Hunter brought the Eagles six points closer before Roughead, all alone at full-forward thanks to a melee that had broken out up the field, kicked his fourth for the half.

Franklin added another to take Hawthorn's lead out to six goals and leave little hope for Eagles' fans optimistic enough to hope their team would bounce back from last week's shellacking with a win against the odds.

There was some unsettling news for Hawthorn with Jordan Lewis taking no further part after leaving the field in the first half with a leg injury, and ruckman Brent Renouf being reported for striking West Coast's Adam Selwood.

Crawford also left the ground late in the match after pulling up short when kicking the ball.
