Beijing Day 5
Game by Game
Russia 71 dft Belarus 65
Russia has not been the dominant force in the tournament so far that we expected but they continue to win and here they held off Belarus for a 6 point win. For the second game in a row a big rebounding advantage helped the Russians, who conceded just 13 fouls and minimised the opportunities for Bealrus from the free throw line.

Spain 74 dft Czech Republic 55
Spain went on a big run in the third period, outscoring the Czech Republic 30-11 for the stanza to secure this victory. Anna Montanana led all scorers with 20 points, accumulating those at 75% from the field - hitting all but one of her nine two point attempts. The Czech Republic just could not get their offence flowing, making just 19 field goals in a game they needed to win.

Latvia 79 dft Brazil 78
A poor tournament became a disaster for Brazil, falling by a single point here to Latvia. It was the third consecutive loss for the World's number four ranked team, and puts them in real danger of not progressing. Latvia got 25 points from Anete Jekabsone-Zogota and double figure scoring from Kublina, Basko and Tare while Santos again shone for the South Americans.

China 80 dft New Zealand 63
No surprise here with China getting away to an early lead and holding that for most of the game. The New Zealanders showed plenty of fight, actually equalling China's second half score but could not claw back the lead they had given up in the first half. Nan Chen dominant on Wednesday, with 26 points and 17 rebounds.

Australia 90 dft Korea 62
Much as expected with the world champions handing Korea a heavy loss as they continue undefeated in the tournament. Australia won all four quarters as Taylor and Batkovic both scored 18 and Jackson landed 16 points. Batkovic made it a double with 10 rebounds. Korea's Yeonha Beon provided her teams highlights knocking down six three pointers on her way to 20 points for the night.

USA 97 dft Mali 41
Another lopsided result to finish Day 5 as the USA routed Mali in the second half. Mali scored just 13 second half points while the US landed 46 to blow this out. Lisa Leslie was a perfect 7 of 7 from the field finishing with 16 points as Team USA conceded just 10 turnovers for the game.

The Best of the Boxscores
China's Nan Chen was brutally efficient turning in the bext stat line of the day with 26 points and 17 rebounds and the Tall Ferns. Chen was perfect from the line hitting 4 of 4 and missed just 3 times from the field with an 11 of 14 return.
Something to watch for
Team USA has been dominating teams averaging over 100 ppg to date in the tournament but it is their shooting percentage that we should be tracking. To date they have collected on 56.9% of their field goal attempts, a staggering return, especially when you consider that Australia is second best but a long way behind on 46.6%.
