Spain needed overtime two days ago to get past China but were reltaively untroubled here against Germany breaking away in the third period.  The victors committed just eight turnovers in 40 minutes of basketball and denied Germany all but four offensive rebounds in a sometimes clinical effort.

Australia 106 dft Iran 68

A different Australia arrived this morning and quickly turned this game into one way traffic with Brad Newly hitting 19 points inn the first half on his way to a 24 point total.  Mosts satisfying for their Coach, they did not let up.  Iran's best chance of a win in this tournament now looks gone, Australia however need to upset the faltering Russian's to progress.

China 85 dft Angola 68

With a towering live-up, the Chinese smashed Angola on the glass with a 37-19 reboudning advantage and secured their first win of the tournament over the African champs.  Yao Ming recorded the best individual score of the tournament to date with 30 points while Yi Jianlian had a double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.  China missed just five two point attempts for the game.

Lithuania 86 dft Russia 79

Someone on the myFiba forum suggested yesterday that Lithuania were flying under the radar - that cannot be said anymore with wins under their belt against both Argentina and Russia now.  They face Croatia and Australia still and should dominate the standings into the final rounds.  THis was never a big margin, but Lithuania held their nerve - shooting well in a big game.

USA 92 dft Greece 69

A big test passed for the USA as they faced a team that has obviously troubled them in the past!  Showing excellent team work again the USA never looked out of control here despite Greece contesting hard early and making some small runs.  Bryant, Bosh and Wade led the US scoring, and as a team they generated a day high 15 steals - their defence again working hard.

Argentina 77 dft Croatia 53

Croatia's shooting game finally fell apart as they connected on just 3 of 15 three pointers and worse than 35% overall from the field.  Nocioni, Delfino, Ginobli and Scola all finished the game on the banch - showing just how comfortable the Argentinians were.  Ginobli also collected eight assists to go with his 14 points.

The Best of the Boxscores

Yao Ming set the tournament's highest score to date with 30 points against Angola.  His adoring home fans might have noticed that he did it with great symmetry, making 10 of 11 field goals and 10 of 11 free throws in a near faultess shooting performance.  

Something to watch for

The USA are ranked last...on the list of team three point shooting.  Having hit just 19 of 65 three point attempts in the tournament they are struggling with a 29.2% return.  Croatia head that table on 50% but have taken only 46 three pointers for the tournament - the only team in the competition to have taken less than 50 three pointers.
