ASUNCIÓN (Consubasquet) - The Presidents of the basketball federations of South America (CONSUBASQUET) set a meeting following the suspension by FIBA Americas. The Secretary General of FIBA Americas, Mr. Alberto Garcia was invited. On September 25, the Executive Committee of FIBA Americas unanimously decided that CONSUBASQUET is suspended as a recognized Zone of FIBA Americas. Also, CONSUBASQUET received a fine of 50,000 USD for infringement to the FIBA regulations following the use of a non-approved competition ball in two official competitions. The meeting was held in Asuncion, Paraguay in October 6th. and 7th, 2008 in attendance of the National Federations from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay represented by their Presidents. A letter was sent by the president of the National Federation of Peru expressing his agreement with the resolution. The following resolutions were considered by the Presidents meeting. That this administrative sanction puts the continuity of our discipline organized through CONSUBASQUET in serious economic risk. That the general statutes of CONSUBASQUET allow calling an Extraordinary Congress when six of their affiliated federations consider it advisable. Upon analyzing the conducts of the President, Secretary and Treasurer of CONSUBASQUET, it has been determined that they have violated the Statutes of FIBA, FIBA Americas and CONSUBASQUET. The following resolution was signed by the Presidents of the Federations of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. RESOLUTION: 1- Accept the resolution of FIBA Americas dated September 25, 2008. 2- Inform the public in general and the basketball family about our frustration and disappointment that such historical sanction represents for us and our countries. 3- Reject decisions made by the President, Secretary and Treasurer of CONSUBASQUET that do not follow the hierarchical order of FIBA and FIBA Americas. 4- Call and Extraordinary Congress of CONSUBASQUET in Asuncion, Paraguay in November 6, 2008 at the Crown Plaza Hotel.
