Group D of the FIBA Americas League starts tonight:
XALAPA (FIBA Americas League) - Halcones de Xalapa, Soles de Mexicali, Quimsa Santiago del Estero and COOPENAE Liceo de Costa Rica start today their journey towards the final spot in the Final Four of the FIBA Americas League with the beginning of Group D action.
Halcones Xalapa are the leaders of LNBP with a 42-2 record and last year they were the champions after beating Soles de Mexicali 4-3 in the finals. Their main import players are Abdul Mills, Leroy Hickerson and Dontae Truitt. Their key local players are Victor Mariscal, Gustavo Ayón, Victor Ávila and Raymond Castillo.
Soles de Mexicali was the only Mexican team to enter the Final Four in the first edition of the FIBA Americas League where they finished in second place. greg Lewis, DeJuan Wheat and James Penny are their imports while Hugo Carrillo and Anthony Lever-Pedroza will be key on offense.
Quimsa Santiago del Estero was invited into the FIBA Americas League and has a 4-10 record in the second phase of Liga Nacional in Argentina. Brazilian import Wanderson will join Nakeia Miller and Brandon Mason as their imports. Gabriel Mikulas, Julio Mázzaro and Jonathan Treise lead the way for Quimsa.
Finally COOPENAE Liceo de Costa Rica entered the league by winning the Central American League for Clubs. The team has many weeks training and their local players are Ricardo Durán, Jaytheiv Davis, Andrés Umaña, Jeffry Spencer, Henry Martínez, Daniel Simmons, Delio Brenes, Iván Jaen and Cristian Chavarría. Their imports are Tim Jennings, Kendrick Jones and Justin Leigth. The team is coached by Rodolfo Fonseca.
On day 1 Quimsa takes on Soles (18:10) and Halcones closes against Liceo at 20:20.
The best team in the group enters the Final Four of the FIBA Americas League to be played from February 6-8.
The teams who already qualified into the Final Four of the FIBA Americas League are Minas Tenis Clubé (Brazil), Biguá (Uruguay) and Universo/BRB (Brazil).
