Following three straight seasons of success for Warrandyte Venom’s Division 1 Big V Women’s team, a Venom men’s team is set to join them on court in season 2010.

Warrandyte Venom is set to field a Division 3 Big V men’s team in 2010 under the guidance of new Senior Men’s Director Kelvin Bowers.

Coach Bowers is keen to put together a competitive team for their inaugural season and is hopeful of not only attracting some local senior talent, but also fostering the junior talent coming through the Venom junior program.  “Defence will be our foundation. If we can establish a work ethic on defence that limits our opponents scoring, and make it difficult for them to score, our dream of duplicating the Women’s success will not be far away,” Bowers has stated.

Newly appointed Warrandyte President and Division 1 women’s Coach of the Year Justin Nelson believes Bowers is just what the Warrandyte men’s program needed. "Kelvin is a class act, a real ball of energy and a person who genuinely loves the game and helping young players to aspire to higher levels."  It is this enthusiasm and love for the game that is expected to help finally provide a pathway into senior basketball and something that all junior Venom boys can now aspire to.

Tryouts for Warrandyte's inaugural Big V men's team will be conducted during October, starting on Tuesday October 6 at Warrandyte Sports Complex. Players participating in the tryouts should arrive no later than 8:15pm.

The tryouts will be conducted each Tuesday and Thursday during October (October 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29) from 8:30pm to 10:00pm with coach Kelvin Bowers. Once the final squad has been selected, pre-season training will continue during November, December and January, prior to practice matches yet to be finalised for next February.
