HYPE BEGINS TO BUILD AT KNOX CONVERSE STADIUM OVER SEABL SPECTACULAR

Saturday 5th June will see Knox Basketball present the 2010 SEABL Mid-Season Spectacular. The theme of the night is pink with the purpose of the Spectacular to raise funds and awareness for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and put on a show for the crowd with great games of SEABL basketball and entertainment.
Last year, the inaugural SEABL Mid-Season Spectacular saw the Raiders attract their biggest regular season crowd in over a decade when 2,000 spectators packed the rafters of Knox Converse Stadium to witness the Knox Ford Raiders SEABL Men’s team defeat the undefeated Brisbane Spartans in an overtime thriller.
Knox Basketball helped raise close to $3,000 for the NBCF in 2009 as all proceeds of the night went straight to the worthy charity. Raider’s players and staff wore pink shirts throughout the evening to give the night a unique pink theme, whilst some big names of Australian basketball joined in the festivities including Andrew Gaze, Lindsay Gaze, Michele Timms and Basketball Australia CEO, Larry Sengstock.
This year will see the Spectacular feature two SEABL Grand Final replays with the curtain raiser game featuring last year’s Grand Final participants in the Knox Ford Raiders Women who finished Runners-Up and the Brisbane Lady Spartans who were crowned Champions. Following the conclusion of the Women’s match, half an hour of entertainment is lined up for spectators to enjoy which will lead into the big rematch of last year’s SEABL East Conference Championship game which saw the Raiders secure their second consecutive Conference title after coming from behind against the Brisbane Spartans in one of the club’s biggest come from behind victories ever.
The night will again attract the who’s who of the sport with Sengstock again primed for another appearance and an NBL past players shoot-out planned at half-time of the Men’s game featuring arguably the NBL’s best ever import in Darryl McDonald, past NBL and Knox players Andrew Parkinson and Glenn Siegle and a fourth contestant who is still yet to be announced.
Other attractions will include a special ‘Raider Raffle’ with a number of fantastic prizes up for grabs including a Sharp LCD Television and there will be a $500 Rebel Sport Gift Card going the way of a spectator who dresses in the best pink theme of the night.
Simon Brookhouse, CEO at Knox Basketball believes this year’s Spectacular will offer fans a fantastic opportunity to see some of the country’s best basketball action for an absolute bargain whilst supporting a great cause.
“The SEABL Mid-Season Spectacular is one of the marquee events on the Knox Basketball calendar and after the huge success of last year’s event, the buzz has started to circulate around the place. We’ve got singer-songwriter Chris Mitchell who was the supporting act for well renowned band Kisschasy to play a set in between games along with a much anticipated NBL past player’s shoot-out at half-time of Men’s clash,” said Brookhouse.
“The response we had in ’09 was phenomenal and I encourage everyone to get behind the cause. It’s only a gold coin donation to attend the Spectacular and all proceeds we take via admission, raffles, auctions and National Breast Cancer Foundation merchandise will go directly to the NBCF.”
Admission to the Spectacular is just a gold coin donation with all proceeds of the night going to the NBCF. The Women’s game is scheduled for a 5:30pm tip-off and the Men’s game is set for an 8:00pm start. Doors will open at 4:45pm and with a sold out crowd expected, fans are encouraged to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
