Groves Pulls Out Of Title Shot!
The Boxing World will have been looking forward to seeing George Groves in his WBO super-middleweight title shot at Robert Stieglitz, in Germany, and so it is disappointing to see the 24 year old pull out of the bout due to injury.
We don’t know exactly what the injury is at the moment as his camp are yet to specify but we know that he has had trouble with his hands in the past, which isn’t a good sign.
On the positive side, he is still young and so he will have plenty of time to get things right, but he will be so frustrated at having to cancel a fight.
It is also frustrating for us fans too. He has shown a lot of promise and he is held in high regard in Boxing but I still want to see that performance where he really makes a statement and shows that he could be the best in the world.
People have said that he drops his hands too much, and have questioned his decision making in whether to box or fight. And although he beat DeGale, I wasn’t entirely convinced that it was the right decision by the judges.
What will stand him in good stead though is his great management, and his temperament, He has done well in his career so far and I hope he can get a title shot one day, but he needs a few more good fights under his belt first.
His management are probably looking at the current crop of super-middleweights and thinking that they are a good bunch, so they might just hold him off from that for the time being. Either way, he needs to fight in some shape or form and it will be interesting to see if we ever find out what the reasons are for him pulling out.
Betfair boxing betting predicts a great future for Groves although those wanting to capitalise on in-play betting may have to wait a while longer.
