Falcao and Adrian hold the key
There was plenty of Atletico Madrid fans who believed the club would struggle for goals this season following the departure of prolific duo Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero last summer, however, the arrival of Falcao and Adrian has gone some way to fill the gaps. Both players will be looking to end their debut season at the club with some silverware, which could come in the form of the Europa League trophy.
Columbian striker Falcao has been the main man for the club this season, adapting to La Liga with ease following his arrival from Porto last summer. The 26-year old has added 10 Europa League goals to his 27 La Liga strikes, with possibly his most important brace of the season coming in last week’s 4-2 first-leg victory against Valencia. The prolific front-man will once again be the biggest danger to Valencia this week and Atletico fans will be hoping their new hero can once again steal the show.
Ever-improving Adrian has also been a major reason behind the club’s European success this season. The attack minded midfielder has scored nine goals in the Europa League this season, setting up a number of others for the often unplayable Falcao.
Diego Simeone has done an impressive job since taking charge of the struggling club at the turn of the year, and has admitted the Europa League is a tournament which he is determined to do well in.
“We just need more of the same. Obviously this is an important moment for the club, the players and the fans and hopefully we can repeat the same kind of performances we have produced in our last few games,” added the former Argentina captain.
“This is the competition that excites us and all we need is for the players to turn up who did not do so in Madrid last week.”
